Has anybody bought the power protection plan??

My wife and I are still having problems with our 2520. After about 3-4 hours of mowing one of the pins in the clevis falls out. The warranty runs out in June 09. I was wondering if it would be worth it or just try to trade it off.

Hmmm.... I really want to understand your post? And I'd like to think that you were serious when you asked the question regarding the additional warranty coverage.

But.... a clevis? And that's the basis for a warranty claim? As well as wanting to trade the tractor at the end of the current warranty - a clevis pin falling out?

If you really want to sell it -- I'll give you a couple hundred - sight unseen... Sounds like a very serious mechanical problem! :D :D

I am serious about buying the additional coverage or getting rid of it. The pin lets the deck fall to the ground. It has happened several times now. The dealer is trying to fix it but nothing has changed. Is it serious, no not if you do not want to use the mower deck. We bought it to mow with not to ride around on or look pretty in the garage.

I agree with you 47chevy! I'd be serious as a heart attack about this problem. Suppose you come up with some logical fix that we all agree "should" solve the problem and then WAM....it happens again ONLY THIS TIME it damages your tractor or mower deck? Then what? You are out of warranty and you are left with who knows how large of a repair bill to fix something that should have NEVER needed fixing to begin with. I know that I certainly didn't pay 20K for my tractor and implements so I could figure out ways to make them do what they are supposed to do! Folks need to stop trying to decide others rationale and start trying to help them like they asked for! Just my opinion, other will certainly vary :p

You must type faster than me because I would be out mowing again faster than the time it takes to post a gripe.

My 2520 just headed for the shop today to try and get the slooow fel to speed up, and I as well am at the end of my warranty period. I was wondering the samething!!! However, I haven't received an info from JD on the extended warranty. I think I would take it if it isn't a CRAZY $$$.

I checked on the extended warranty yesterday for my 2320 and I looked at two different plans. They have lots to choose from depending on the number of months and number of hours. My factory warranty runs out in September of 2009 and I was thinking about the extended.

One plan I looked at was for engine and powertrain, 48 months or 1500 hours and it was going to cost $670 Canadian.

The other plan was for engine and powertrain, 60 months or 1500 hours and it was just over $1000 Canadian.

There is also a comprehensive plan available but I never checked prices on those plans.

The other catch was that the extended warranty is not an additional 48 or 60 months it was another 24 or 36 past the factory. You are really only getting another 24 or 36 months not the full 48 or 60 after the factory warranty expires.

Also if the extended is bought within the first year of the factory warranty there is no onspection required but if it is the second or last year of the factory warranty there is an inspection required and part of that inspection is fuid testing. The fluid testing requires the purchase of a kit for a couple hundred bucks that you have to purchase and then if the fluids pass the tests you will be able to get the extended warranty.

I have decisded not to get the warranty. Yes it may cost me more in the long run but I can't afford the warranty right now.

Thanks for the info, did you have to contact JD direct or did they send you something?

The local dealership sent out a letter from the service department about a month ago, works out to be about 6 months before the factory warranty expires. I had my tractor in there for some warranty work I asked about the extended plans.
I had an antifreexe leak during the winter when the recirculating heater was plugged in. One of the service guys think it may have been leaking around an o-ring on the front of the block near the bottom of the water pump. We also think it was because of the cold and metal contracts a little when it is cold. I figured I better get it checked out before the warranty expired.

I'm not a fan of extended warranties as they are almost 100% profit for whomever is selling them. In 30-years I've only met two people who actually got something out of them. One was my first boss who had a one of those awful gas to diesel GM engines in a Cadillac and another is a pilot friend's Subaru wagon.

How about a picture of the cranky clevis. Maybe a TBN member can give you a solution.
