I have these worms/larvae that showed up about 3 months ago in our pantry. They got into ever box that was open and then some. I've search but not real sure what they are. At first I thought they were wax worms but what comes out from the cocoons doesn't look like a wax month. The size of the worm is 1/2 inch long with a gurth of 1/6 inch. I guess I should have taken a picture of what is coming out of the cocoons but I cleaned the pantry out again and just now saw one crawling up the wall. Couple pics below of the worm/larve.

Thanks
Randy

EDIT: Added pic of what is coming out of the cocoons.

It's a common pantry moth.

I think your right. Did some more research and I believe it's a Indian Meal Moth. I guess I'm going to have to get some pheromone traps.

Thanks for the help

In my ole Navy days, we called that "meat in the wheat".

pheromone traps work good as a control, but the cure will be to freeze all your grain based goods for a day or 3 before putting them in the cabinets. Also need to get some good air tight containers - unfortunately, i found out last year my ceramic jars with rubber gaskets weren't good enough.

We get those time to time from bulk 20# bags of bird seed .. darn hard to get rid of sometimes.

where do you guys get the pheremone traps?

Oh how we hate those things.

We had a bad infestation years ago in the old city house. They were in some granola we bought from a bulk bin. :( Those things climbed all over the place and nested up. Then they turned into little moths..... What a mess.

In the new house we have had them show up as well. Best I can tell they were in the oat meal.

Go through EVERYTHING in the closet and look for he worms and cocoons. Check UNDER boxes/containers. Look at the underside of the shelves.

A vacuum works real well for cleaning them up. :D Including when they change into moths. :D

Dan

yep.. they seem to like nuts, cerial, and seeds.

We get rid of ours.. but then the next batch of birdseed usually brings a few more for us to chase.. ARGH!!
