I am going to replace these old tires but I'm not sure about how to remove those old spoke wheels. I think I need to simply remove the cross bolt and pull the wheels from the axel stubs....but I have never done those type wheels before. Can anybody enlighten me about how those old hubs and bearing work? Is there a roller bearing in there somewhere?

(Its still a little too cold outside to screw around when you don't know what your doing.....lol)

I am planning to cut this EZ Flow spreader down and turn it into a six footer to get between the trees to lime my food plots. I got some good instructions and a plan from someone who has done the job....but I gotta get this rolling on different tires first. I will post some pics and a "how to" when I get that part underway.

My Gandy drop spreader has the 3 spoke Dayton type wheel. Its and odd inner rim dimention. I took a spoked wheel like yours on one the one i was repairing and found a donut wheel was and inch smaller diameter than the original spoked rim. I measured off the center and got my distances and then marked the wheels with chalk. I jacked it off the round a bit and set my torch on a block of wood and held it steady there and burnt off the spokes. This made it easy to weld on the donut rims i cut the centers out of.

I am not positive but (on my JD) the hub drives the unit, and my guess is one will have to pull the hub and bearing and then take the tire off, (I would guess it has a caged roller or barrel bearing not a tapered unit), or jack it up and work the tire off the rim in place, really not a bad thing they used real rubber tires and they only lasted 30 to 50 years, unlike to days tire that will last no more than 10 years,
