Hey,
First post here and I'm looking for some information.
I bought a low hour (360) F13D to do some clearing and bushhogging in my trees. I wanted something 4wd, small, very manueverable, and I got just that with this tractor.
Problem is, the head gasket started leaking, and I caught it before it got serious.
The head is currently at a machine shop getting torn down and magnafluxed. It might also have a burnt exhaust valve. Hard to tell until it's apart.
Anyway, if the head checks out OK, and I'm going to have it milled and a valve job done. Likely just lapping and polishing.....The head is warped about .004". (The block is flat.)
So I will very likely need a head gasket among others. I called Hoye, and everything is available but the head gasket.
Any ideas where I can track one down? Hoye told me that even though there's a part number and price in the book, that it is unavailable. They told me my only hope was to find someone who still imports parts from Japan to get one for me, and they didn't know of anyone who still did that.
Also, does anyone know the head bolt torque values and the valve lash clearances?
I understand that this information is likely within one of the manuals available form the parts suppliers, but I'm not ready to buy one yet.
Without getting into a long drawn out story explaining every detail, the head started leaking the day my tractor was delivered. I do not believe it was a problem apparent to the seller, but just one of those things. It was obvious that the engine has never been apart, nor had it been cleaned to try and hide a cylinder head leak. The seller offered me the option of returning it for a refund, but has also allowed me to tear down the engine to inspect it, giving me the option at any time to return it for a refund or have it fixed. He is also willing to pay me for the parts to fix it, up to a certain dollar amount. So I really can't complain. I just don't want to buy a bunch of manuals, then find a major problem with the engine and return the tractor for a refund.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Allen
