The unit has stared very easily and ran great for several years. Last year it developed a flat spot. So I would tap it with a wrench or something each time until it turned over and started.
Well it got bad so I bought a new starter. The new one fits but was not the same shape as the original. It sicks out further than the original so I have to leave the side cover off. the new one does spin the engine, however, the it must spin the motor too slow because it takes several tries to start it and when it does start the engine lugs very bad until it catches up. (not sure of the technical explanation for that)
So, when I started it last year I just kept it running until I was done for the day. Don't really want to do that this year.
Does someone rebuild these? Do I just need the solnoid? Can you actually get the solenoid seperated from the starter? Recommendations?
The only number I could find on it was S114-146. With an 4XA underneath it.
