I'm in the process of buying a nice low mileage 2000 F250 XLT regular cab. The owner passed away and his wife wants to sell it. She doesn't know that much about it.

It has an add-on remote starter but doesn't appear to have keyless entry. At least it wasn't with the keys she gave me to look at the truck. It does have power locks.

I was wondering how hard it might be to get the Ford parts from a salvage yard to add remote entry? Maybe I could upgrade the remote start to add remote entry?

Also, the truck had a Myers snowplow. He gave the plow away but the truck still has the hitch, controls, and wiring harness. Wonder what type of plow I need to look for? The Myers hitch is the tube style? Does the plow attach to the lower part of the hitch and the lift and lights slide into the tubes? There is a touchpad on the dash to control it but there is also a joystick. Wonder why both?

Did it have the paperwork for the add on remote start? Does the remote start control have extra buttons? Some better ones include a hook up in the wiring for remote entry. I have an add on remote start unit new in the box that I haven't installed on my truck yet and is has the remote door lock function that I can hook up. I'll get to it one of these days.

It would be much easier just to get an aftermarket keyless entry system or the Ford add on kit. I wouldnt recomend trying to peice it all together yourself.

Also be carefull it is is a Bull Dog brand add-on remoter starter. THey sold a few years worth of equipment that and will ruin a Ford computer. On mine, you can't turn the key to accessory, all the dash lights stay on inclidinmg the ABS and SES light. ABout 30 seconds later, all the buzzers start going off.

A 2000 XLT, I guess I would have expected it to have keyless entry. I had remote on a '97 F150, but it was a Lariat. I think I would take it by the Ford dealer and see if they can tell you if it has it. If it does, then they could get you a new remote control key module.

Does it have the Keypad entry? If so I would bet that it has a remote entry system built in. Mine was like that when I bought my 2000 F150 2 years ago - I ordered a new remote keychain from Ford for about $70 if I remember right.

My 2001 Ranger was the other way around; had one remote when I bought it and I got another one from the Ford dealer for about $40, but it didn't have the keypad on the door, so the dealer added that for $150. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif And they programmed them at the dealer, but even they didn't know that if you program one, you de-program the others. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You have to program ALL the remotes AND the keypad at the same time. Very simple to do, though.

Thanks for the information. It doesn't have the keypad on the door. There were 2 extra buttons on the remote start come to think of it. Never thought to press them. I saw some paperwork in the glovebox but didn't go through it all to see if there was information on the remote start.

She is having the truck inspectioned and gone over this coming week on her before the sale. I will have a closer look at it once we complete the transaction later next week.

You didn't mention whether gas or diesel.

Most enthusiast sites recommend running away from any diesel truck that has a remote starter.

Why?... because they probably used it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you don't have anything to vary the RPM every so often, then over time it can do horrible damage to the engine with the wet stacking and raw diesel going into the oil.
