New Holland TC 35(primary), MF 165, JD 40T,
Looking at a bigger truck for a tow rig.
What about F 450 manual shift w/ OD and 6.8 V10 triton 170,000 miles.
Any thoughts. Currently tow my TC35 2wd and 1 or 2 pieces on a 20ft tandem axle w/ single axle brakes behind my 2000 gmc z71 1500. No problems but would like to save my city truck. Thanks PJ

I used my buddies F450 when I worked with him, and on occasion other times. It was an '02 with diesel, stickshift, and a flatbed with dump. Loved that flatbed...

The load you note, you'd never know it was behind you...

I got my 99 F-450 psd for the same reason. I can tow tow my tractor and have almost all of my implements on the flatbed with no problems.

You will also be able to stop your load a lot faster compared to your 1500.

Just get one truck to do it all. Had an F450 to haul my trailer/tractor and a toyota for the dump trailer for firewood. The F450 got 5MPG and on it's best day the Toyota got 17MPG. Moved up to a Dodge Ram 2500 cummins, 18MPG average (traded them both in), best thing I ever did. Put Timbren overloads on her and she acts like a dually. Quad cab is sweet, don't miss the 8' box. JMHO...ain't the brand it's the concept!

well I didn't get the F 450 but I did run across what I think was a good deal.
1987 Ford F350 5.4 auto with 8' x 12' steel flatbed (no dump) w/ g/n ball.
91,000 miles. $2G. very good shape all the way around. ( ebay 80 miles away) Put in a tekonsa brake controler. Thinking about adding a H/F truck crane on the rear corner to aid in picking up implements and putting on board. Also making side boards out of 5/4 4 boards high. Still have the same trailer but I'm really thinking about putting brakes on the other axle, as I want to load my tractor tires.
Any ideas or feedback appreciated.

Wouldn't the gas motor of that vintage be a 5.8(351) or a 7.5(460)?

Ford used the 351 and 460 thru 1997 in f250 hd on up .
