I recently pulled the engine to replace the front seal. I thought I had the wiring correct, but after re-conneting the wires to the starter and battery, the battery light stays on and the battery drains and mower quits.

HELP...What wires go where? I have the heavy gauge red wire from battery to the starter going to the (+) terminal. The heavy guage black wire from (-) battery terminal going to the back of the engine, those I'm sure of. Now comes the unknowns.

On the battery side of mower:
1) There are smaller gauge red and a black wires in flexible plastic tubing coming from a head light switch. I think this is an add on! I thought the red went to the starter and blk to battery (-)
2) There is a medium gauge purple wire coming from inside the front of the engine housing and not sure what this connects too...Gnd or starter?

Opposiste of mower:
3) Just below the oil cooler, there is a electrical box that has potting material on one side and cooling fins in the other. It has 2 black wires and 1 purple wire w/ connecter plugs that connect to 2 black wires and one red wire. Do the black go together (and does it matter which ones) and the purple go to the red? I switched the black wires but battery light stayed on.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Bruce

Update: JD informed me to check the voltage rectifier. I have 33v incoming, but only 5v going out. Is this low voltage normal or is this what'ws draining my battery?
