Tractor
JD 4310
Been shopping for a ten series tractor and my dealer has a used 4310 with under 200 hours on it that he says was used at the factory as a tow and gofer vehicle. His price is about $3000 less than a new 4310, with no warranty.

Has anyone ever heard of these factory used JDs? Is it standard practice in the tractor business to offer no warranty on used tractors? Does anyone see any red flags here?

I would have no problem with it EXCEPT the warranty issue. There is NO EXCUSE for there being none...

What are the prices?

I bought my 4310 from one dealer who was ~$3K less than another, and the lower priced unit was a newer version....

I've been to the factory in GA, and don't understand what you are being told. There were experimental and test tractors, but the go-fer vehicles, as I remember, were gators and pickup trucks. But that doesn't mean it couldn't be true. Also strange that the factory-used tractor would end up in MI when the factory is in Augusta, GA. Also, would think the selling point would be that it had a warranty. Why would Deere not warranty their product with only a few hours on it? Something you are being told doesn't sound right.
I would also like to hear what the price to you is.

The price to me is $14,000 for the tractor with ehydro, MFWD, DSCV, and R4 tires. Also 420 loader with HD 61" bucket, hood guard, level indicator for $3000 and a 59" front mounted snowblower for $3800.

That is about $600 less than I paid for brand new and in warranty...

Wow, that doesn't make this sound like a very good deal. Unfortunately the three John Deere dealers within a two hour drive of me are all asking around $17,000 for a new 4310.

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Actually, the dealer told me that the tractor came from the factory in Dubuque, Iowa. Does that make sense?

No. Utility vehicles in factories are either propane or electric powered in the interest of air quality. What year is this tractor to have no warranty?
As far as the $17k for a new tractor, I would keep driving south. I'm about 3 hours south of Traverse and the prices are better down here. I would also go with the 430 FEL as opposed to the 420. If I recall my 430 FEL w/ the 6' bucket was $2900, so you would even save money /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
