Price Check Fair price on 48" John Deere Bush Hog

I have a neighbor that is moving, he let me use his bush hog the whole of last summer because i have about 15 acres to manage. He just had about 1/2 an acre I cut twice for him as "payment." He has always been very generous.

He saw my wife today and said look online for the value of the bush hog and pay him whatever I think is fair.


I think at most it is 5 years old. Good shape John Deere 48" bush hog. I believe RC2048.

Do not want to lowball. But, if I had to buy one this year I would at most buy a new tractor supply @ $999 or look for something used well under that price online. Also with all the crap going on right now I don't particularly want to spend a lot of money right now, but do need something to cut our fields.

My tractor is a Ford 1510. I have also used a 5' bush hog on it, I was surprised that the 4' was not much easier on the tractor. First cut I have to go very slow either way.

Anyone opinions are helpful and appreciated.

Tractorhouse.com is a good place to start looking for prices. They have a few 5yr. old ones averaging about $1200. Does it have a slip clutch?

Wide range of prices. A 2012 for $600 then all the way up to $2k. A brand new for $1300.

Half price of new, is what I usually go for. TSC 48" is $999, so $450 - $500 seems about right.

to price his fairly you need to see what John Deere wants for it. Remember most of the wear came from you using it.
Im sure its more than a TSC one. What model is it ? Standard or heavy duty? Also if its got a slip clutch that would add a couple hundred dollars to any others you are looking at. Most brush hogs dont come standard with a slip clutch.
Also sounds like a 4' would be way undersized for 15 acres. You say your tractor handles a 5" as easily as a 4'.
I would go 5' then.

TSC model for $999 is not in the same ball park as the JD.If I am correct JD brush hogs are made by woods equipment.What maker/model is the the TSC? If its county line go with the JD.
