Farm pro 2430
I have a farm pro 2430 with 170hrs. It had been sitting for 10 years without operating. I have the tractor running well but have one remaining issue and would like a little help getting started. The 3 point lift jumps when hitting the top of the stroke. It does it in any position the draft lever is positioned. It does not do it without attachment(in this case a tiller) installed.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I assume its a relief, check valve, or maybe just an adjustment. Also there is a round knob just rear of the gear shift lever. I have it in my head that it as just a flow control for adjusting how fast the 3 point drops depending on the weight of the installed attachment. Am I correct?

I'd start with the feedback lever. It's a rod that goes from the right lift arm to the valve that tells the valve when the lift arm has lifted so it can shut off. It's adjustable with a turnbuckle. I'd make sure it was greased and moving freely, and then adjust so that when the lever is all the way up the valve shuts off when the lift arms reach the top of their travel. It's a simple adjustment once you realize how it works.

Thanks for the help. I don't see any external rods so must be under the top cover. I have a parts breakdown schematic from circle g tractors we site and I see the rod you are talking about. I'll tear into it next weekend. Thanks again

Nope - the rod is external. But it is such a simple part that you could probably cobble one together if it's missing. The rod just pushes the lift lever into the off position when the lift arm reaches the max height, so you do need a strong turnbuckle/adjustment screw.

That knob you asked about behind the gear shifter is the speed control for lowering the 3-pt arms. Hopefully yours turns pretty freely -- there's a small set screw that can be loosened a little if needed. Make sure you don't loosen it too much - it keeps the knob from being forcibly ejected by the hydraulic pressure if the knob is ever loosened too much.

Also, be careful not to tighten the knob too much -- especially with a heavy implement in the air. It's possible to tighten it so much that the arms won't go down at all -- ask me how I know!

Lastly, I'm concerned about the jumping that you mention at the top of the stroke -- it's possible that your 3-pt piston is going beyond the end of the cylinder. I'd definitely recommend adding the adjustment rod and making sure it shuts off the valve a little before it reaches the top. The gasket between the cylinder wall and piston can be cut when the piston travels too far and replacing it is a VERY messy job.
