I guess he never rebuilt an engine ? that blue/red RTV works great for sealing / making intake end gaskets! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif though I dislike it when two surfaces are bolted up TIGHT as the material squeezes out as stated above, intakes usually use a 1/4" thick gasket which seems to POP OUT when ever it feels like it lol. it has been on my old cougar for ni-on 15 yrs now with out a leak one...
I also say stay away from it for sealing the seams of the tank sending unit. you need a good metal to metal contact (better than just screws if possable) to keep the fule sender working right... I used a ratching wrench and a bit to tighten mine up. worked well. bit of tape to hold the bit into the ratcheting wrench and walla all done. I think mine was cork too. btw cork has been used as gasket material for ever... works great if done RIGHT, don't over tighten it but the cork will swell slightly and stop all leaks, mine was leaking at the screws not at the gasket! each screw was removed and a bit of LIQUID THREAD SEAL was used. (pipe dope which was/is fuel resistant) NOT the teflon tape stuff which strings off... ALSO the sealing compound was used under the head of the fastners not on the first few threads as you would NORMALLY use it.
