Farmall 140

I just got a new house with 15 acrea mostly pasture and I bought a Farmall 140 with a woods belly mower I'm new to the tractor thing and I've been mowing my pasture with it I've tried up and down the hills and side ways with the engine up hill but I'm having a hard time getting comfortable with the tractor to tell the truth it's scaring the crap out of me when I'm using it could someone give me some info on using this tractor on hills or should I keep it on flat ground

Used a 140 for years mostly on flat ground plowing. Did use it to trailer stuff all over the farm. It was steep on a lot of the farm but tried to stay off the worse part except for driving up and down. They aren't really made for steep areas. If you have to go across bad places do what you are doing with the engine up hill. You can also set the wheels out. That will help the most. If you don't have wheel weights, get some.

only do up down on side hills.. never go across.. that's an easy way to side flip.

The best thing to do is widen out your wheels which will lower center of gravity. Also your mower will help keep the weight low. Try to go straight up or down steep areas rather than across the slope. It is not as tippy as it seems, but it is not as steady as some utility tractors. 30 years and I haven't rolled mine yet mowing some pretty steep bankings. Go slow.

Good Afternoon Crw,
All good advice from the other posters. I own two offset Farmalls, and as the others have stated, widen out your wheels and use wheel weights on both front and back... Also when I did turn the tractor on the hill I would turn counter clockwise keeping the offset on the uphill side of the turn. Just go slow, and be careful !

They DO make you wish the seating position was lower to the ground on a sidehill. All good advice you've got, but mostly this tractor was made for flat land.
