Still shopping for my first!
Not looking for Is this the right size tractor for me? , but rather any feedback on the Farmall 35C. My purchase in the coming weeks has come down to the 35C and the Massey 1735M. Both seem so similar and in a perfect world both would most likely suit me fine.

Here is what is running through my mind:

- MF dealer has low inventory, having a difficult time getting one in. Apparently the 1835 model will not be in for another couple months.

- MF dealer is fine, my closest dealer, but my sales guy is either not overly motivated or really is having a tough time locating a unit. Little more follow up would be nice, even just to say that he is working on it. Also I have received pricing on the E (Economy) MF model, but yet to see anything on the M model. It has been a couple weeks. Maybe he has got to physically locate one first before giving me a price?

- Case dealer, still pretty close, the sales guy is really good with following up and answering questions. Plenty of inventory, seems super easy to work with.

- Was planning on a cash deal but the Case 0% financing is same sale price as a cash deal MF (most likely little less). Keeping my cash in hand is kind of attractive.

So here is my ultimate question.....is the Case as good as the MF? Lots of compact MF tractors out there with good reviews. Very little info on the Farmall C compact tractors. Only really one non-dealer review on YouTube and its bad. Seems the guy bought a beat up used one, but still negative is negative.

So is it too much of a risk going with the 35c?

(and I know, this is the Case section of the forum. But I gotta ask the question somewhere!)

Thanks!

I'd stay away from the smaller Case tractors. Massey Ferguson has really upped their game. Plus, no diesel particulate filter...a big plus. Take your time and get the tractor you want.

The Case Farmall C and its New Holland brother are just LS tractors in a different color. Plenty of reviews of LS tractors. MF is a better tractor in this class, but at a substantial price premium. No DPF is huge, I'll never own another DPF tractor. Now the next step up for Case, the Farmall A 55, 65, 75 are best in class and priced competitively. Same is true as they get bigger. Nothing wrong with LS, up to you if the price delta is worth it.

There is no new tractor above 25HP on the market right now without Emissions control on it. Please don't fall for the marketing strategies from various manufacturers that say their tractors doesn't have emissions.

These tractors either have a DPF or DOC. DPF will do a regen every once in a while when the filter fills up to a certain level. The DOC is a passive system that'll do constantly burn once it gets to the right temp. I'm not saying one is better than the other as that's not the point here.

As you can see by quickly glance over various forums, both systems are prone to issues. Most issues depends on the use of the tractor, others are caused by the emissions itself.

All 25+ HP tractors have a DOC. Almost all have a DPF. MF, Case Farmall A and Mahindra do not. DOC's almost never have an issue. DPF's have issues, regardless of brand. Lot's of 75+ HP tractor don't have DPF's, but have SCR's instead. SCR's have issues too, but not nearly as often as DPF's. It's not marketing hype. It's easy to do your homework. Your blanket statements are wrong.

What's exactly wrong on what I said then? Besides this part that I now corrected to : "....tractors doesn't have emissions." Previously had: "...tractors doesn't have DPF".

DOC or DPF is not either or. ALL have DOC. Most have DPF. The ones that do not have DPF are not marketing hype.

Todd92 is exactly correct. Most DOC only tractors, especially the Massey Ferguson line, the DOC is designed as a full flow through system and to last the lifetime of the tractor. I have the 2019 MF 4707, and have had zero issues in 400 hrs.

The Farmall 35C does have a DPF (I sold the New Holland versions). It will regen about every 50 hours but does it automatically if you run it hot enough. Assuming it is a 2018 or newer model it has an LS-built engine. These tractors are built in S. Korea by LS. They are OK and will do probably about anything you'd want to. Wouldn't be afraid to own one, especially if the money/incentives are right. Comfortable ride with a true rubber-isolated operator platform. Loader lift capacity is around 1800# if I recall correctly, same on the 3pt hitch. I think they're a little short on leg room for 6' + tall persons. Now, the Massey is a fine tractor and honesty, probably the better option if money isn't the limiting factor. Japanese built unit with a Shibaura engine (if I recall correctly) and DOC only, no DPF (a benefit). Very good fit/finish. Nice features. Over 2500# hitch capacity, 1660# loader. In the "new" compact tractor arena, Massey is probably the best quality you can buy right now in that class of tractor. And I'm biased toward Case IH in general, ha!

If you have another Massey dealer in the area or a farm show near you, it'd be worth it to take a look at the Massey. Note the differences for yourself.
