Farmall H steering linkage

In reassembling the steering linkage on my H (I did dot do the dis-assembly) I noticed a key-way for a woodruff key in the steering shaft, on the end that slides into the u-joint. The joint assembly has a key slot, but it is only about half as wide as the one in the shaft. Is there supposed to be a key here, or is tension from the lock bolt (which does not go thru the shaft on this tractor) supposed to hold the shaft??

Yes, there is supposed to be one. Although not very clear picture, here is a link to the Case/IH parts book online: Official Case IH Online Parts Store and Case IH Catalog for Best Parts Search and Best Parts Look Up. Case IH Parts for Case IH Tractors, Case IH Combines, Case IH Tractors, Case IH Manuals, Case IH Parts. #60 in the exploded view. If you click on the item in the parts listing, it shows it to be a 3/16" X 7/8" key.
