Just for interest::D

Last evening I was talking to an old friend who farms six sections in central Alberta.

During the winter months his fuel cost average's $350.00 per week. During the last harvest season it was $1200.00 per day.

Fuel is the least of our worries ,It is our smallest input and not increasing in price as fast as fertilizer / chemicals or seed .
When you work it out it's only increased by a few dollars an acre in recent years and when you're covering 300 acres a day looks expensive but you're going to burn fuel ...There's nothing you can do...?
If fuel was cheaper the "Bio-diesel " would not be such an issue and our grain prices would be lower .
I'll keep fuel where it is and grain prices likewise..????

This thread is about fuel which will lead to food prices in the end. Everyone has seen a rise in food prices but I predict we ain't seen nothing yet. With the high input prices farmers are paying now all we need is a big drought across the bread basket and it'll drop them on their knees fast. If this drought in the southeast moves across the country it's going to be bad to say the least. Who would have ever thought fertilizer prices would be where they are today. Some say by fall P and K will be $1,000 per ton. It's already high enough to put a hurt on the cattleman. Our prices for calves has fallen and our input prices are up just like everyone else's. Folks are selling cows down every day now. The numbers are going down fast now.

It will cost me about $155 to fill up my IH this spring. Not a pleasant thought but not much I can do about it.

If one section is 640 acres, then he farms 3840 acres.

Sound right??
