Farmi makes a small logging winch, the model 290 I think, that weighs less than 400 lbs. What are everyone's thoughts on using that on a 2320? I wouldn't be logging, and can cut trees to shorter length. Mostly it would be used for getting deadfalls out of my brook, and other places I can't get too close to. I am quite familiar with using snatch blocks to keep the pull in line with the tractor. What say you all??

Get it. You may only use it a few times a year, but there's hardly an alternative to some of the situations that that require a winch. I have a Farmi 501 and it has paid for itself in more ways than one. Like a lot of other specialty implements, it will just sit and sit and sit...and then when it's time to put it to work, you thank yourself for getting it. Look at long-term, not short term on this kind of purchase. You're not a logger making $$$ on it, but over time it will earn it's place on the roster.

I have a Farmi 351P which has the dozer blade and is matched to my 3320's hp. These style winches where you don't have to belay the tractor when pulling, you control the pull strength with a clutch, you operate it from a position out of the line where lashback from a broken or loose cable would hit, and provide a safe attachment point for skidding are the only way to go when working in the woods. They are safe and fast.

I use mine quit a bit for cleaning up my property, getting firewood, and doing some small scale logging for my Logosol portable mill. I am never going to pay ridiculous prices for lumber again.

Thanks for the input guys! They sure looked good at the dealers, but I wasn't sure if a 2000 series was big / heavy enough to handle the smallest ones. I haven't bought my tractor yet, and would like to use one of these winches in my woods.

Chuck, did you find a dealer around here that has one in stock?

Pinnacleview Equipment in Walpole usually does, RN Johnson has a similar size but different brand, I've seen them at Townline Equipment too. Closer to you try Hawkensen Equipment in Plymouth, or Merrideth, they had one last summer/early fall when I stopped in.

They are nice for smaller tractors since they use 5/16" cable, and only weigh about 375 lbs. I saw one being used on a Mahindra 2015 and it was pretty slick. That tractor weighs almost 2000 lbs though, so I was curious if anyone had used it on a lighter tractor. The dozer blade digs in, and takes most of the load off the tractor, but I wonder if you should have a heavy duty top link to use one on the smaller tractors?
