New user ,great site. Just bought a 2430 . Amp meter regersters 0. Batterys were half full. Then checked alternator, idle speed12.6volts,2000rpm 13.0 volts. It says its a14volt alternator. Is this normal. Thanks,Ricky
batteries may be pulling down the voltage, once they are fully charged you may see a higher reading. So long as the voltage is above 12V the batteries should charge. The voltage regulator is supposed to kick off at 14Volts.
if the battery is DOWN, then reading 12~13 volts when running is right on money. It will stay low untill battery gets charged up then voltage will start going UP untill it hits the 14 Volt mark or so then cut off for a few seconds then back on. as it charges & shuts down...
make sure to check battery voltage when fully charged (should be about 12.4 or so min voltage.) also you MAY have a volte meter that is off a bit...
keep us posted, make sure to check the small caps on the battery too. there was a rash of them which the little vent holes were not punched through, so the battery would not vent and builds pressure internally and can split a seam or blow acid out a seal... (had to use a pin/prick punch to push a small hole into about 4 of the 6 on mine...) a DART works very well /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If that battery has a bad/shorted cell.. it may not let the voltage come up... might check it with another battery.. like the one out of your truck. however.. in any case.. the ammeter should be registering a charge, if the batteries are that low.
Test the voltage at the battery... before the start and when running...
SPIKER,Ijust found small stickers on top of my battery caps that said,REMOVE. It is all charged up now and everything reads right. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Thanks a lot. Ricky
