FT35 Farmtrac
I have an Farmtrac FT35 that recently started having starting issues. Initially, to get it to run, I had to physically push the choke to the seated position behind the fuel injection pump and it would crank with no problems. That has no affect on it now. I manually pumped the fuel and opened the bleed valves on the two fuel filters to make sure fuel was there and it was. I loosened the three lines at first, the top of the engine, no result in fuel when turning over and then at the top of the fuel injection pump and again, when turned over, no fuel.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a pump that needs rebuilt or has something else broken that isn't allowing the pump to pump?

There is a strainer in the tank that is notorious for stopping up on these tractors. Have you eliminated it? You might still get some fuel out the bleed valves, but might not be enough to feed the pump.

I'll check that and get back to you in my findings.

Had the same problem on my Jinma 204. Started working bad, missing a bit and then finally died. Went to start it a few minutes layer and started right up just to die again a minute later. Ended up the strainer had deteriorated bad enough to plug the fitting but not enough to completely plug the line, just enough to starve the pump.....Mike

Unless there is something in the fuel tank, I'm not seeing any kind of "strainer" for the fuel tank.

Here is a picture of the line coming out of the bottom of the fuel tank with the fuel shutoff valve.

Here is a picture looking down that line from the fuel tank to the water/fuel separator.

...and then a view of the water/fuel separator and the piping going into the fuel injector. There are two fuel filters, but no "strainer" that I'm seeing. The duel fuel filters are right below the pump.

The strainer will be on top of the petcock value in your first picture. You'll have to disconnect the fuel line and remove the valve to get at it.

Only it won't look like that. More 'en likely it's be all rust and crud covered....Mike

Yes, it's yellowish but clear, only a spec or two of debris.

Looks clean as a whistle. Am I seeing correct - you have a water separator of sorts that goes into the primer which has a sediment bowl on it then goes into two fuel filters then up to the pump? Might try to disconnect the input at the pump and make sure you have flow. I had just put a new set of fuel filters on mine when the secondary filter somehow blocked fuel flow. Mine would run, but would miss. It was the last place I suspected since the filters were practically new. After you clean the lines and ensure your filters aren't plugged, I would put the valve back in and make sure you have a good steady flow of fuel at the pump input. Could be your pump, but the line and filters will be much less expensive to troubleshoot. If the line/filters check out, your local diesel pump shop can bench test your pump for probably $250-$300.

I had a similar issue where I would not get fuel at the to of the injectors. Ended up being a head gasket. I thought for sure the pump was bad. Get a compression check done first. Is the shut of solenoid working???????
