Do any of you own a farmtrac tractor or know somone who does? Any information you can tell me about them would be great.

Thinking of putting them in the running with the Kioti and Kubotas that I am looking at.

Right now I like the Kioti DK55 and DK65.

NEVERMIND.

The search button is my friend. I should have known a 2007 with 15hrs was to good to be true. I don't think i can chance it on something i can't get parts for and that isn't going to hold up.

Maybe I should have asked.... can you tell me what tractors to stay away from. Like FarmTrac and Yanmar maybe.... who is a big NONO?

You're going to find proponents and detractors for *every* brand out there. Some frequent posters here are very happy with their Yanmars, others wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. You'll have to start out with what features you want and what you want the tractor to do, find tractors that fulfill those requirements and narrow your selection down from there.

Best bet is with the big names. I would now include Kioti in that. I personally own a Ford and a Jinma and while neither one needs many parts I actually find the parts for the Jinma quicker and cheaper to get parts for using the internet.

Again I have not needed many parts. Just a thermostat, starter, and hydraulic steering seals for the Jinma. The Ford has just needed some hard steel parts like steering linkages, top link mount, shifter lever.

i thought the farm track was made in india, could be wrong though, they look like some of the fords that were great tractors but don't know if they made em for ford or not.

Before their parent company committed self-inflicted, maniacal, homicide upon themselves (yes) I would have put them at the top of my list. Various entities are looking to take up the support for them and there is a HHHHHUUUUUGGGEEEE thread somewhere on here about that issue.

I don't know if I'd totally right off such a new model with such limited hours at a good price out hand myself personally. Quite a few Farmtracs have been sold over the years, there is a market to service, and their basic design being that of primarily 1980s/90s Ford models with modern engines means you can probably get most parts decently from a variety of sources.

One I like seriously now and that you don't mention is Mahindra. Very good reputation and today my first choice for a new tractor..........if I was in a position to go buying a new tractor and all.......

When starting to research a tractor purchase, some of these "deals" peak our interest, until we weigh the prospect of saving a few dollars on such a machine against a life time of frustration, weeks of downtime due to system failures and the difficult task scrounging parts.

It's not like someone is just giving us a tractor. "Deals" on orphaned machines still cost money, usually considerable sums. I don't know. It just seems like with the right pricing and the zero financing offered by the big 4 or 5 makers, who one is confident have both built a solid machine and will be around in this shaken world economy to support it, it finally comes down to why? Why bother? Just my $.02

bp_fick, I understand what you are saying, but I am not financing and am not buying brand new... so that probably leave the big 4 out. I really love JD and want to buy one... but when comparing a 60's model JD with 3K hours to a 00's Mahindra, kioti even found a kubota all with 1K or under hours for the same money... that is what stops me from pulling the trigger on the big 4 or 5 makers.

Judd,
This is actually a great time to buy used. Used prices have crashed. Two reasons. The economy, of course, but also the Zero financing deals.

I have noticed not everyone is with the program and are still asking last year's prices for their used machines, but I also notice that they don't sell.

I have seen some great deals on machines, under 1000 hours, that I personally would love to have. Keep looking. You will find someone who really needs to sell. There's more than a few of those out there. Again, when buying a used, I'm still going with the Big 4 or 5, for all the same reasons stated earlier, maybe even MORE so. Best regards.
