Mahindra 3016 shuttle with FEL, pallet forks, Norse 350 winch, BXM32 wood chipper, 6' brush hog, loaded turf tires & 2-link V chains
Hi all,
First off, let me say I searched and read here and on Google before I posted here, I am not one to throw up a question until I am pretty sure I can't find the answer myself.

I have a relatively new Mahindra 3016, with a FEL. The loader works well, with a single issue. The fast dump doesn't seem to work with the bucket on, but does seem to work with the pallet forks on.

I noticed this when plowing snow this winter with the bucket. When I would try to fast dump, it didn't move any faster regardless of joystick position. I did hear a tone change of the hydraulics, like it wanted to move faster, it just didn't physically seem to move faster. Also, I talked to my dealer mechanic (they are a decent drive so I didn't take it in), and he said when moving the lever from normal dump to fast dump, there should be a position between the two where the bucket stops/pauses, and I couldn't get it to do this.

The other day I had my pallet forks on it seemed to dump fast when pushed all the way over, but I am not 100% sure. I definitely heard the tone change in hydraulics when I push it hard over.

Another note is my up curl is much faster than my down curl, whether or not the down curl is 'normal' or 'fast'.

I am not familiar at all with 4 way valves, but don't mind taking it apart and cleaning/inspecting it. What should I look for? Clogged screens, rusty detent balls, plugged orifice? I am at 55 hours, so doing the full engine & hydraulic service very soon so I wanted to clean or fix this prior to putting all new fluids in there.

Thanks in advance.

You say your curl up is faster than curl down.

Maybe your hoses are reversed.

There is supposed to be a soft stop in the regen mode.

In regen, you are mixing the rod side fluid to the pump flow, and the speed should be almost twice as fast with less force.

Try this. Place your bucket flat on the ground and try and raise the front wheels off the ground.

The non regen mode should raise and the regen mode might not raise the wheels.

Is your regen in the first part of the lever movement or the last part, or to the far right.

The speed of any attachment will be dictated also be the weight of the attachment and the linkage of the mounting pins.

The closer the pins to the cyl connection will produce a faster attachment.

Shorter spacing, faster speed.

My fast dump (is regen more accurate a term?) is to the far right, while slow down curl is closer to center.

I don't know if my curl will lift the tires, but I will try it out when I get home.

Both the bucket and forks are on a Skid Steer style quick attach, so pivot of pins is the same on each, only the weight pulling downward when the forks are on is greater since they stick out much farther.

How would I know if my hoses are reversed, and which hoses? I have never removed the FEL, and all motions of the bucket match the sticker next to my joystick.

Is this a recent problem?

Have you replaced any hyd fittings?

Perhaps the QD are not passing the fluid equally. Debris in QD, not set firmly. etc.

If the bucket motions match the label, then the hoses are correct.

Your curl up should never be faster than regen curl down.

Example: Using 10 and 20 GPM

2 in bore, 1 in rod, 10 GPM = 12.3 in per min.

Regen---------------20------= 24.5 in per min. About twice as fast.

You should be able to time the rod extending using normal dump and then regen dump.

I believe the problem has always been there. My first 20-30 hours were mostly just getting used to the tractor last year, and bringing in firewood for the winter. Only this winter when I re-read the manual when I was starting to plow snow did I focus on the "Float" and "Fast Dump" capability of the bucket, and then notice the difference when moving snow in my driveway.

I assume something must be stuck in or blocking the down curl lines. I will see if I can make time to take the valve apart this weekend and clean it then re-test. Thanks for you help and I will update the thread later with what I find to try and assist others if they have the same problem in the future.

You are not the first one to mention that fast dump is "iffy" on the 3016. It may be a problem related to that model. Arrow ( a member on this board) and I went over this extensively without resolution. He advised that regen mode just does not work well on his new 3016 either.

I can't comment on regen functionality on a Mahindra, but I can say on my Deere and Kioti, you do need to be decisive in you movement into regen. I've found that if you don't snap the level over, the bucket will dump very slowly and you can hear the valve hissing (I assume it's relief).
