It won't bale very fast if you need parts and they are 2000 miles away. Stick with a New Holland, John Deere, or a Hesston-built inline. These are the only brands with nearly perfect parts and service support. If you want to bale any amount of hay, the last thing you need is an orphan.

STAY AWAY from it !!!

A contractor had a Deutz-Fahr baler and broke the shearbolts 3 times a hectare. He bought it brand new but the next year he traded it for a second Welger baler.

The only true high capacity conventional baler (available in Europe, we dont get inline small balers) is a Welger: A former classmate of mine had a contractor baling with a Welger and a 130 hp tractor: When dark clouds started to come, they tried to bale as much as possible before the rain:
The 130 hp tractor could not keep up with the Welger ! Even though the bale length varied quite a bit at that pace, because it either took 3 or 4 strokes to fill a 6 foot bale !!

I'd also recommend; STAY AWAY from deutz-fahr balers.

Interesting thread; at full speed with a welger doing 3-4-5 plunger strokes per bale, would you still get a well shaped bale, or rather, would all bales be square? (If clouds turn up you wouldn't care that much) :)

There are some inliners available in europe, the MF 1839 (hesston). I don't know if they eat more hay than a welger? Or more than a 1990-year model of a Case 8545 small square inliner? Aren't the inliner bales better shaped than other balers?

Looks like you have received answers. As they are recommending for you to stick with New Holland - maybe consider a NH 276. It has a "little" more capactiy than you currently have and you might even be lucky enough to sell your 273 and buy the 276 for about the same money.

My response was the only one that specifically mentioned New Holland, and that was not exclusive.
I was thinking more along the lines of a 316, 565, or 570, actually. No point in trading one 30 year old baler for another if the guy wants to bale a bunch of hay. A 276 isn't much of a step up from a 273, and if he happens to buy a poor one, it's a step backwards.
