Here are a couple volunteer projects we did in the spring of '07. This was done in Hocking State Forest, in SE Ohio. Home of what is known as "Old Man's Cave". The hills here are solid red sandstone. The valleys, and stone faces were carved out by the glacial melt.
I live approx. 30 miles north of this State Forest, and in the proximity of where the glaciers stopped.
This is a link to a photo essay that our webmasters for the Ohio Horseman's Council put together. The project was done by what is known as the OTP, or Ohio Trails Partnership. Hikers, Mountain Bikers, and Equestrians getting together to build new, or improve existing trails in Ohio parks and forests. And to preserve these trails for future generations to enjoy.
The first link will show where we built 1500' of trail by hand labor, in less than 4 hours...
After lunch, we hand passed approx. 9 tons of "D" rock, to fill gabion baskets, and built the trail across the washout...
