I was changing out the fuel filter in my tractor, and this filter only has about 60 hours on it. I discovered this hole in the bottom of the filter, it is not a corrosion hole, it is too perfectly round. It is a napa or wix brand Part Details and a very standard type fuel filter. Could one surmise that there was a plug over it at time of installation, and it fell out? (I dumped the fuel out of the bowl without looking at it closely, into an oil drain pan) so not sure if it (the 'plug') was in there. I just hope that most of the fuel was filtered before going into the injector pump, but obviously some had to go through the hole. Has anyone seen this hole in a filter before?

The hole doesn't even look centered. What's the new one look like? May sound stupid but you don't think someone drilled it there?

Looking at your link for the new filter there doesn't appear to be a hole On that end.:confused3:

My understand of how these filters work is fuel is passing through the paper element to get filtered and then out the center of the filter to the engine.

It could even be from the inside to the outside but I don't think so.

I would make certain I understood the fuel path through my filter and that there were a rubber seal or seals to make certain fuel followed the proper path.

I would guess you have a manufacturing defect and because the hole ended up off center it was in the wrong place to receive the necessary rubber sleeve on the assembly line.

Is there a hole on the opposite end?

yes, the other end has the rubber gasket and 1/4" or so hole where it mounts to the housing. I have since posting this, found out an inferior filter was used, and it was missing the metal end cap. I will pay better attention to all filter quality in future servicing.

Double check where the end cap is. I had one come apart and stay lodged in the top of the filter housing. Dealer caught it when I took the filter in for a replacement.

Does "inferior filter" mean it was NOT a NAPA/WIX? Reason for asking is, I plan on mostly using NAPA Gold filters. Thanks

It maybe didn't have a name stamped on it. It makes me wonder if someone tried to be inventive and was playing around with that filter. How that hold ended up getting there makes you wonder.

I guess I forgot to mention the details found much later after my post. My son borrowed the tractor to use at his father in laws place, where the tractor started sputtering a lot. They looked through his shop and barn and 'found' this filter in a red white and blue box, and it fit, so they installed it and the tractor ran great. They cannot recall the brand name, and had threw the box out. The reason I changed it out at 60 hours, is because it looked very dirty. It turned out that it was just a very dark color, but nobody knows it could be 10-15-20 years old! Powerscol, I have too had this type filter break off the top cap/gasket on removal in the past. David-kb7, I most always use wix or napa gold, and have never had an issue with those brands. Be prudent however when purchasing off ebay, as recently I 'thought' since the ad for a hydro filter said John Deere filter, it arrived and was the cheapest junk ever made in turkey. smh.
