Faulty Ignition switch.

Does anyone know if a faulty ignition switch can cause the headlights and dashlights to not work? /(YM1401) I'm not to good at fixing electrical problems. But I was trying to figure out why my headlights/dashlights weren't working. I used my tester and found 12volts going to switch. From there I had 12volts for starter then Thermal start prongs, also my horn and blinkers are working. But when I check for power to the fusebox there isn't any reaching it. Hope someone can make sense of this. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If the horn & blinkers are working ,you have 12 volts to the fuses. Looking for blown fuse or unplugged wiring by headlights.

I would bet on a faulty ignition switch. Ocassionally on my YM2000B, the gages will shut off while working hard. i can flip the ignition switch off and on and they will start working again.
Gonna have to check it out, (clean it), one of these days.

Like Len said, if horn and turn signals work, then fuse box has power. Check the fuses. They may look good, but check them with an ohm meter. Sometimes the are internally bad where you can't see. Also, I have seen bad/corroded/loose connections on the back of the fuse boxes.

If you have power to the fuses, then I think your ignition switch is fine. As previously stated, check the fuses then the wires coming off the fuse block. Also, check to see if you have 12V at the lights. You might have 12V but no ground. You could also check for 12V at the connector by the battery. Let me know if we can help. Dave
