I can’t imagine that using transfer tanks like are designed for truck beds would trigger hazmat markings. They are used in truck beds routinely.

Apparently sticking to 119 gallons or less avoids it, trailer or truck.

That's the DOT number I found when shopping for my 108 gallon transfer tank. I made a pallet for it, and load it up 2-3 times per year for filling.
I have read somewhere here on TBN that you can be dinged by law enforcement for failing to have an "Off Road Diesel" label on it, assuming it's filled with off road.
