Is there a way to get something like an I fax sent to your phone? Wife is away due to work, and I know she can get an I fax sent to the work computer at the house. Currently use a Droid X, and had a meeting where it was determined that some faxes should come directly to me and not one of the offices I travel to. Would work out nice if I could get them sent to my phone. Any ideas? Thanks

All I can think of is some form of image file (jpg/pdf/tiff/etc) - either as a multi-media message or email attachment ...

You'll need some software on a mail server that converts the fax to a document. What or who is your e-Mail service provider?

FAXes and other text documents are pain to read on small screen. You would be better of if they send what you need as email attachments that you can load to computer from your phone or use your phone as wireless modem for your computer. If you don't want to carry computer get an iPad and have the docs emailed.

I agree. Problem is, you have to know some of the abilities of the people you're getting information from. Faxing keeps it very simple for some. Believe it or not, part of the reasoning for getting me the fax isn't so much that I can read it easily, just that I can stay on "top of it" and ensure it gets forwarded to the right people and it's taken care of. I've made some spreadsheets for people, but honestly, it's going outside of their "comfort zone" so to speak as far as accessing it, entering the information, and then e-mailing it.

I'd prefer to keep it to yahoo or G mail only for the fact that I've been having issues keeping my companies work e-mail account up on my phone. I know with my wife, she uses her work server at the home for the I fax (which I'm certain has that software). Part of that issue is that her work fax number is an out of state number and I do use it occasionally for my job, but it can cause some confusion with people I work with. Added the fact, that if I'm out on the road, I may not see it for a while.

Various companies will give you a fax number for $5/month where they will convert incoming faxes to PDF and email them to you.
Also, some more expensive multifunction printers will do the same thing.

We use muratec and Lexmark copier/fax/scanners with office bridge function. When it receives a fax, it emails it to the intended recipient as a PDF. It can also scan a document directly to email, a storage folder, or FTP to a remote server.

Search the apps market. You never know. I have the Droid X and use the Camscanner app which takes a pic of the document and converts it to a pdf. I email workorders to my boss with it.
