Howdy, I'm new here and to farming. Just bought 170 acres outside of Lexington, KY. I've got my main tractor (Ford 6610) and am starting to pick up the escential impliments as I can afford them. I bought a King Kutter bale spear at TSC, the Cat 1 model, 2,000 lb capacity. Underneath the frame is a small ring that has been welded on. Anyone have a clue what that is for? I've asked around, but no one seems to know. I'll try to attach a picture here to show what I'm talking about. Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can in this forum to minimize the mistakes I'll make on the land.

Tim

Hmmm.... so over 100 people have looked at this post and no replies. Not sure if it's just because no one knows, or maybe no one really cares.

Well, just in case anyone does care, or anyone sees a similar feature on another implement and gets curious, I did some investigation and found out. During the manufacturing process at the factory they slice a pipe and weld that on the frame so that they have a way to handle the impliments with automated equipment and it makes it easier when they paint them.

The company leaves the ring on the implement partly because it would take effort to remove it and partly because there are some uses for it. For instance, if you want to hang the bale spear in your barn rather than just leave it sitting on the ground you can use this ring. You can also use it to pick up small stuff with a chain like a mini boom pole, although it's weight capacity is very limited as would be the lift height for something like this.

Now I can sleep easier at night. :)

With every thread you start you'll get far more views than replies. It doesn't mean anything more than that people look and choose not to comment for whatever reason. Mostly, I suspect, because they have nothing to say on the subject. Sometimes you look at the thread just to see what it's about. Don't take the non-replied views personally... I would not have known what the ring was for.

Hope you're able to catch up on some sleep tonight!

I know when I looked at it, I thought that it would be real handy if you didn't have a loader. I use the hooks of my loader to lift things all the time. Without a loader, that would be the ticket for a lot of things.
There's a lot of cool things out there that don't get posted and I wish they would. I saw a really cool barbwire unroller at Wal_Mart yesterday. It was a two part implement. The three point part and the roller part. It attached together with a receiver hitch so I guess you could use it on your truck also.

Yeah, I figured, I was just having fun. Don't worry, I've got thick skin, but it's nice to know someone's out there in tractorbynet world.

I'm one of those who didn't see this thread until just now, and I've seen lots of different hay spears, but never that one and wouldn't have had any idea what that ring was there for.:D

Good to see another Bluegrass buy here! I just now looked at your post because I have not been on in quite awhile. I had no idea what the ring was for.... Now I do!
