Friend has a Lincoln 175 Pro for sale used, I've also been looking at Everlast Powerpro 205 (new). Ignoring the plasma cutting function, how does TIG capability of Everlast compare to a Lincoln 175 Pro? I mostly have small farm implements to weld, 1/4-3/8" steel plate, sheet metal, aluminum tube and frame stock. I'd like to be able to weld smaller parts, for example I just welded a piece the garage door opener, a small gear was pressed onto a shaft end with a flat and it came off. Using gas on that got it way too hot, would like to be able to TIG those kinds of small things. My gas welding skills are good, I stick welded many years ago and was competent, I have a small wire feed flux core that I'm OK with. But I know nothing about TIG.
tnx

The 175 is a good little rugged unit, but it has some deficiencies.
1) higher current requirement transformer, with 65 amps needed for AC welding
2) Lower duty cycle of 25% at 150 amps.
3) Needs constant HF on AC and no balance or frequency adjustments
4) Higher minumum amps: 10
5) Much heavier 200 lbs

Here's what the Powerpro 205 offers:
1) High duty cycle: 60% at 200 amps, 100%@160 amps.
2) Maximum amp draw at 34 amps
3) FULLY adjustable pulse
4) AC Frequency and balance control
5) Arc force control for stick welding
6) digital/stepless amp adjustment
7) 50 amp plasma.
8) mininum amps: 5
9) Lighter at about 75 lbs.

The arc will be as stable and smooth on the PowerPro 205 as any welder in its class.(if not more)

That's important for me, I'd have to rewire the receptacle I have.
3) Needs constant HF on AC and no balance or frequency adjustments
Not sure what that means, sounds like it would make it harder to weld Aluminum.
4) Higher minumum amps: 10
That's important, I'd like to be able to weld thin material
5) Much heavier 200 lbs
No problem, that's what teenagers are for. Seriously, that's also an issue because I occasionally will have to drag it into the pasture to fix something.

Thanks for the thoughtful response.

You don't like High Frequency, Balance, and Frequency control? When ever you feel like a road trip you can come play with my Dynasty!

Yes, those do make a big difference....But I read it to mean that NOT having those adjustments made it more difficult....I think we agree...I may have misunderstood his post.

I also read his post the way you did, and think that you are both agreeing. Anyway, I understand what you're saying. I've spent some time on your website looking at videos and reading articles, it was helpful.

It amazes me what the frequency control can do to the arc cone!
