I posted this over in the general owning/operating question, and got varied responses based on tractor manufacturer.

I'm hoping existing XR41XX owners can let me know how smooth of 3PT operation I should have with my tractor. That is, if you feather the valve, moving it by very small amounts, do you get a smooth response at the 3PT hitch, or does it jerk/bounce?

My new tractor has a fair amount of jerkiness to it, and I'm trying to figure out if its

(1) Normal to be somewhat jerky

(2) Abnormal to be jerky, but caused by air in the line. I know I have air in my lines, which I believe occurred when the dealer hooked up some hydraulic run implements, and in the process of circulating fluid through the lines/cylinders of the implements, the reservoir ran a little low.

(3) Abnormal to be jerky, caused by a faulty valve, perhaps?

I've attached a video of the 3 PT motion. The amount that it bounces is much worse than it appears in the video. At high RPM it shakes the entire tractor.

Any insight into how smooth your 3PT operation is would be greatly appreciated.

How many hours do you have on it? I think it might be air, when I first got my new 4140 it had that chatter also, maybe not as much as yours, but still it was there. It slowly went away, and I had forgotten about it, until I read your post. btw, I now have 165 hours on mine.

Do you remember roughly how many hours it took for it to smooth out?

Mine had 3.5 hrs when I got it from the dealer, and now has 5 hours on it. It definitely had air in the hydraulic fluid when I got it for the reasons previously mentioned. I had to top off the hydraulic fluid after I got it as it was at the very bottom of the low mark. After running it, if you look at the dipstick, there are tiny air bubbles in the fluid. After sitting overnight they disappear.

I do not. Seems like it just got a little better every use, and then it was gone. I want to say it was before my 50 hour service, but.....crs

My 4155 is definitely smoother than that-I’ve 60ish hours on mine-never ran low on fluid so I can’t tell you how long it takes to bleed out but I’d expect the system to bleed out within a relatively short period of time when exercising the hydraulics

If you have a FEL you can run it through several cycles. They use much more fluid than the three point. Just watch your fluid level between cycles.

my 4155 was same way when i got it.i've got 118 hours now and its not doing it

Sorry for being a little late to the party. Quick question: In that video, did you move the lever all the way up and the 3pt did that? Or are you moving the lever slowly up?

Mine never did this. Has never done this.

Another question, sorry. Are you using draft control? This shouldn't matter, but it's something.

'Air-in-the-line Syndrome' is really easy to fix, and would have likely worked it's way out before you got frustrated enough to make and post a video about it. I have use several hydraulic implements that would introduce air, and have not had this issue with the 3-point.

Thanks for the response.

The motion is from moving the lever very slowly. If I move it a reasonable distance, it moves smoothly to the set point.

I am inclined to think it is air, as it has gotten noticeably better over the last couple of hours of use. In addition, when I check the hydraulic oil dipstick, it does still have small air bubbles in the fluid immediately after shutting down the tractor. After a few hours of sitting, these disappear.

Ok. Mine can be a little jerky too, when moving the lever slowly. It's smooth to the setpoint, like you stated. But if I am making small adjustments, it jerks like that. I believe that is normal. Least drawing from my experiences with many different tractors both old and new, seems like they all are 'responsive' like that. Unless I am missing something.

The bubbles in the oil... not sure I have ever noticed it. I'll have to look the next time I'm out and about.

But, if it's getting better than thats good!
