Tractor Sizing FEL/3 Pt Hitch Size

My 1510D has a 20" spread on the 3 point hitch for the aftermarket lower arms. If I move up to a 16XX, 17XX, or 18XX, would I still have the same spread on the lower arms, or would it increase to 26"? Also, I am making a FEL for my 1510D, and ultimately, I would like to move up to one of the above listed tractors. What is the inside width of the common after market FEL arms for this size tractor? If anyone knows the hood height and length, this also would be a big help.

If you're asking because you want to get the 26" 'small' drawbar, you may want to just get a different set of lower lift arms. I'm not sure what your's are like.. butt the arms on my 1700 were useless stubs. I couldn't find a single impliment that would fit them.. I ended up getting a set from TSC.. some kinf of universal arm? or for an 8n/9n.. don't know.. they weren't marked... but worked nicely. Extend the arms on my 1700 out about 2.5to 3" beyond the rear ag tires.
I was able to use the 26" drawbar.
I might add that the replacement arms had slight offset swivel mounts at the front and rear, and the yanmar one was absolutely straight. The offsets deffinately added to the rear clearance.

Sometimes gray Yanmars are retrofitted with generic 3 point lift arms by the importer. Sounds like they are not always the best fit. The factory lift arms on my 186 have a ton of shape. They kind of curve around the tire then head straight back. It is a kind of weird "S" shape. Tractor Ernie makes lift arms and the pictures show quite a bit of shape.

Have you turned your rear tires out?....My F16D with tires out and straight lower arms that go 9" beyond rear tires has 28" max. spread. I can see your frustration, 20" spread would seem useless....28 is tight enough!

Thank you for the information. My rear tires are in the normal configuration. I have Tractor Ernie's arms on my tractor now, and they are great. I just was curious if I get a bigger tractor if it will take standard category 1 three point hitch attachments (which I believe is 26" wide).

You normally have to go to a much larger tractor before they go to category 2 for 3pt implements. We had a 65 hp International 664 with category 2. All our implements were cat 1, so we used bushings to go down to cat 1.

If you're much of a welder it is easy to build arms that have a double bend in them to accomodate wider mounting implements. Check out EFC construction website for pics of his 3 pt conversion. Good pic of the arms with bends to get wider. I have built them myself in a similar fashion and they work out great.

Here is a soloution for the narrow spread. This is a quick hitch from Tractor Supply. The draft arms are mounted inside of the adapter on pins instead of where they are supposed to be. The adapter has the 26 inch spread so most of the standard cat 1 stuff fits. The tiller has brackets welded on it so it fits the adapter. A side benefit is most things can be hooked up without leaving the seat.
