FEL Chain Hooks

Where is the best place to put a hook on the FEL?
Is it alright to use the bar behind the FEL to hook a chain?



Its a 45 a with an L16 FEL with a 73inch bucket.

I had 2 hooks welded on the top side of my bucket so i can tilt it and get the proper angle to hook a chain in. Works great. I don't think i'd use the cross memeber on the loader if that's what your talking about. Besides, there's hydraulic lines all around on mine and a chain is sure to bend, hook, or bust one soon.

I sure agree with CJ4 that I would NOT use the crossmember between the FEL arms (the one where your grapple hydraulic adapters are mounted). That could be a disaster for hydraulic lines. However, if you are talking about the square tube that runs between the quick attach adapters, then I think that one would be fine to use to put a chain around. It actually makes your lift point right at the loader pins and gives you a lot of lift power. I have used that one on my tractor with no bucket. That gives even more lift power.

For the FEL bucket hooks, I think I'd put a reinforcement plate on top of the bucket and then weld on a couple of grab hooks. Many people put a slip hook in the center of the bucket, but your grapple may get in the way of doing that.

You are correct on the square bar I was talking about. I would like to use this to loop a chain around and lift a wood chipper and place it on a cart but I wasn't sure of its strenth.

Two Hooks on top lip of bucket with a reinforcing bar welded across the entire length will provide sufficient lifting capacity without bending the bucket. Your FEL pressure will limit out before you break anything.

Here's my setup, most of my friends tell me I overdo everything but i like to be ready.

The surprisingly useful ones are the ones on the BH

I had a friend weld three hooks on my 7308 loader’s Heavy Duty 60” bucket for my TC33D. Sorry I don’t have any pictures, but like yours my bucket has a pipe on the top to which these hooks were welded. One hook was welded in the middle and the other two welded next to each side. I have found these to be invaluable for lifting items.

Your friends are right.... you do overdo things but it looks like you are prepared for anything.

The top of my loader is round so I think I'll need a plate welded.

What do you use the vertical receiver tube for?

When I tilt the bucket full forward I can move my trailer around, I also intend to build a light duty boompole to fit the receiver.
