I am having a problem with the FEL control valve on my BX1800. It used to raise the the boom assembly when I pulled back until the lever stopped. Now, pulling the lever all the way back does not move the boom. However, pulling back the lever part way will move the boom. I checked the control valve assembly and do not see any obvious adjustment that will allow me to re-calibrate the the valve travel. All other control positions ( down, float, roll back and dump ) work properly. The tractor has about 70 hours and all works well except for the problem with raising the boom. Is there a simple solution for this problem or do I need to involve the dealer? The problem showed up shortly after I removed and reinstalled the FEL. Thanks for you comments.

first check your fluid levels and then check the quick connects to make sure there is not any obstructions or damage to them.

Apparantly there are dead zones in the raise/lower which can be adjusted out by using the tilt adjustment

You have reconnected a hose assembly incorrectly. J

Sounds like a simple customer induced problem... {it was working properly before you removed the loader}

I agree with TresCrow's, you have some hydraulic lines crossed or incorrectly rehooked up...

Please don't make any adjustment's... retrace your hose connections... hey, check your loader manual /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

day13,

I experienced the same exact problem once when my 5 year old daughter raised the 3ph while the backhoe was mounted causing the hydraulic relief valve to activate.

"Check the Manual???!?, Check The Manual????," Do you really want to get THAT weak???

(Tim the Tool Man Taylor would never check the manual)

Day13,

Ok, lets look at the side of the tractor. fitting 1, the one to the left, with the flexible hose connected to it hooks up to the quick disconnect at the loader control valve. Fittings 2 and three are connected to hoses from the control valve and cannot be reversed, as one has a male and the other a female. If your hoses are connected to the right fittings, disconnect them all. Visually inspect them to make sure there is no junk in them and reconnect them, making sure they go in all the way and the lock ring snaps back in place. It could be that one of the fittings isn't completely seated. The only real way you could have hooked up the hoses wrong is if you looped back the hose attached to fitting 1 to fitting #2 which is the proper way to keep it when the loader is not installed. After checking all of the above, start her up, and after letting it warm up a bit, pull back to raise the FEL, and hold it, this should purge any air from the system. If the FEL lift cylinders are completely dry, this could take as long as a minute. If you still get no response from the FEL, call your dealer...One of the disconnects is probably broken or otherwise clogged. I'd lay money that one of the fittings isn't seated, though...done it myself... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks for all the responses.

FYI. I did study the owner's manual....how do you think I got the FEL off and on in the first place...

Fluid's fine and all hoses are connected properly. Those were first things I checked when having a problem.

Also, when I reinstalled the FEL, it worked properly. Only after an hour or so of using the FEL did the problem show up.

All of the functions on the FEL work perfectly...Except..When I pull back on the control lever it stops in a dead zone with no movement of the boom. If I pull back on the control lever part way, the boom raises as it had before. Except for their being a dead spot at the end of the pull of the control lever, everything works fine. I can use the FEL as I had before except I need to be careful to only pull back the control handle so far, so as not to bypass the zone that raises the boom. Lower and Float are in the same position as they were originally and work fine.

It's still under warranty. I don't want to send it to the dealer because of the pick-up cost and loosing the machine for a period of time when I need it, especially if this is something easy to fix myself.

Mayby this isn't an easy fix??? I suspect that it is something to do with the control valve but have never taken one apart and don't know what's on the inside.

I'd take the cover off the FEL joystick and look inside to make sure the linkage isn't fouled up. The SCV might be loose, or something, and when you pull back hard it tips. The mechanics of it are pretty simple.
