I’m new here, I bought a small farm and a Branson 4820R in July. I bought the universal third function set from Summit Hydraulics. I went to Orschelins to get hoses and fittings to install it but none of the threads on their fittings or hoses matched the ones from my tractor or the summit parts. Has anyone else had this problem or am I just kinda too goofy to pull this off?

I don't know what an Orschelins may be but it doesn't sound like a real hydraulic shop. I suggest finding a different hydraulic shop.

Your Branson dealer should be able to help you with the connector size and type for the tractor side. Summit should have provided a spec that tells you what size the fittings are on the 3rd function. The kit I looked up on their site says to use JIC 1/2" hoses (most commonly female both ends), and the pic shows a bunch of male JIC adaptors for the quick releases and the valve itself. That's good. JIC is much better than NPT and is also very common so hoses will be easy to find. The Summit kit also uses a high quality joystick knob with switches.

This is a general guide to hydraulic fittings: https://www.discounthydraulichose.com/v/vspfiles/downloadables/thread_guide.pdf

Both Discount and Surplus Center are good places to go online for parts. But you might do better by finding a local hydraulics shop who can advise you on the fittings and make hoses for you.

You will need to figure out where you are going to mount the valve and the quick connects and how to run the hoses. Hydraulic is stiff and can't be bent too tight. I use old garden hose to mock up my hose runs to get the length.

For mounting the QCs you can get bulkhead mount fittings that are JIC on one side and NPT for the QC on the other. The QCs are most likely 1/2" NPT.

Thanks all. Orschelins is a farm supply store. They seem to have only one brand of hydraulic parts. I will look locally for a shop that can make what I need. All of this is new to me so I appreciate the quick response.

So what did you get for actual hoses?

Hydraulic hoses are not universal like garden hoses. Here in the states, JIC and pipe thread are probably the most common two ends to get on a hydraulic hose.

Then lets not mention all the different sizes you can get.

You need to look at what you actually need.....then figure out what you actually bought

I know how you feel Truckerger. Hydraulics is not a subject that a lot of us deal with daily. You are on the right track. Find a local shop that can do/make exactly what you need.

Didn’t come with the hoses, I went out to get the right lengths and the fittings to connect, but gave up when I couldn’t get the proper fittings.
A shop will get my business for this. I shouldn’t need any more things than that for a long while

Got all the hoses made with the proper fittings today. It was a bit more than I had planned for but at least it’s done. The guys that made them went out of their way to do this for me as I brought the tractor with me to figure it out. They even put it all together for me right there.
