Front-End Loader FEL ... Hyd Reservoir

My other tractor is a long 460. I needed a FEL for it so I posted a wanted ad on CL. I bought a complete 460 with a FEL ... the tractor is stuck in forward and can not be shifted, all I want is the FEL.

The rain has forced me to the shop and today I decided to take the FEL off ... I was surprised, the pump was mounted just above the PTO with two bolts and when I got to looking things over, the FEL actually houses the Hyd fluid. There is a fill spout right in the FEL arms, the line comes out the bottom thru the filter to the pump to the loader controls ... does not use the tractor Hyd fluid .... a first for me.

I had an old Ford 8N with that kind of loader many years ago.

I just looked at a old Sears lawn tractor with a loader on it like that- totally self contained, except for the belt driven pump which was bolted to the side of the engine.

I thought it was a nice clean setup to add a loader to a non-hydraulic tractor like that.

I just bought a Massey 236 loader (designed for 100 and 200 series so some fabrication was involved to install) for my MF65 that is the same way. I bought mine knowing this was the case as the old Masseys have low hydraulic flow interally. It also came with a hydraulic stinger pump (runs off the crank shaft). It also came with a 2 spool valve but I bought a new 3 spool so I could run a service to the back and later use it for a grapple as well.

My other option was Westendorf WL-21 and a PTO Pump. I would had to have mounted a resevour somewhere on the tractor (probebly an old acetelyne bottle).
