I'd like your opinion on how you feel the best way to move this fill into my low area and smooth out. I got free fill when the government decided to re-pave our road and they ditched along the road. I find I can't push it forward because of traction problems and the FEL won't lift very much because it's all tangled/mashed together. I haven't tried my rear blade. Would the blade work Ok or just keep picking away at it with the FEL ?? Your Thoughts ??

An Idea of how much "Muck" I've got. This is why I've got no Traction. I need to lock the rear differential to get back out.

Another Note:
Part of the "free" deal is that it must be convenient for them. They need to be able to dump and run. If it's more convenient for them to dump somewhere else, they will, so I've got to get this moved out of their way ASAP. The tractor definetly gets a workout as you can see.

I would sure want a toothbar on the bucket for that stuff. It allows it to dig in and pick up the tangled stuff. I think you may have the same traction problem with the rear blade. You might want to use your backhoe to cut some rows in the pile then your FEL could get a better bite. That sure is some nasty looking stuff. You gotta love it when your machine looks that dirty at the end of the day!!!

I've been working in an area like yours too. I use my FEL and just pick away at it as you said. G

When I had pond muck delivered and dumped, I let it drain out a bit and get somewhat dry first. It moved much easier.
Maybe this doesn't work for you if you are in a hurry.

Nice outfit.

I'm with beenthere...I'd let it sit and dryout a while...

I'll count myself lucky too...I got a lot of stuff from the state when they scraped the road's edge, but it was not as wet as what you are dealing with...no where close, but still damp and heavy...

I second the toothbar suggestion also...

Playing in mud with my tractor is one of my least favorite activies anymore...just don't get anything done it seems...except spending time getting unstuck....

Chains on the rear seem to help in the soft, wet stuff too. Especially with R4 tires.

I'm attaching a pic of my good fortune I got from the state this spring...my driveway is about 4' below the tractor. Like you said, they just want to dump from the road...worked for me too...

Ahhh, I remember when the State dumped a load of dirt at my house that had been dug up from the shoulders of the highway. The dirt was dry but the ground around my house wasn't. The truck, complete with full snow plow frame (no plow), sank into the ground about 40 feet off the driveway. So the driver gets on the radio and calls for one of the other trucks to come over and pull him out. You guessed it, that truck sank in as well. So now I got 2 huge flower boxes in my yard and some very unhappy State workers. This was late on a Thursday afternoon and I had to leave for a weekend trip. The last I heard was a call for the motor grader. The trucks were gone when I returned on Sunday evening. The ruts weren't though. Nothing like free dirt. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

FEL, Just peel a little at a time off one side of the pile 1/2 to 1/3 of a bucket. Work your way across a little at a time, raising the boom when you start to spin leave the bucket about level. Its a tractor loader on a compact tractor, not a D9 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif take your time and peck away at it, it'll go.

Might want to put the blade on though. After you get the muck pushed where you want it, you could scrape the thing down to semi dry where they are dumping. Make life eaiser for the nevt load.
