I found that I can do these things if I just get in there and try. Sometimes there is some learning curve, like when I overheated one of those burrs and the braze holding it together melted.
Mostly you have to imagine the things that could go wrong, and then work out how to do the job in such a way that they don't.
When I was 10, I met a friend of my dad who had a home workshop, he could do almost anything.
Since that day, a comprehensive home workshop has been my goal.
Almost there...
I kept in touch with that guy, he grew too; a huge shed in NH is packed with his machine tools. He died suddenly a few months ago.
