Not that I envision doing this all that often but I'm having some difficulties. I get up to the point just before removing the hydraulic lines. I move the joystick around to relieve pressure and the FEL always settles too far so I can't back away. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks,

wickman

I never move the joystick to relieve the pressure. I set the tractor back down then unhook the hoses. I have had only one problem getting them back on, that is when I was on uneven ground.
I take mine off and on lots!

Make sure the machine is off and you are in gear with the parking brake set before you relieve the valve pressure. It makes things a lot easier to do this on cement or a hard surface. I am not on the machine when I relieve the pressure as everything is already locked down and off ready to disconnect the hydraulics. Dave

First time or two I did what Deere said and shut off the tractor, after learning the process I no longer do this, I just follow the process, unhook the hoses and back away. Reverse process works just as smoothly.

I did learn to raise the back up a bit higher, first time or two the front tires didn't quite clear the loader, other than that, no problems.

I have not had a problem with the hyd connections at all - almost connect/disconnect smoothly......

I don't think I have ever shut mine down when I take off the Loader. When it was delivered, the driver took it off with the tractor running. He told me it was easier. Never told me anything about relieving pressure.

Dont you guys get fluid leaking with out relieving the pressure ?? Dave

I shut mine off. Not just because the directions say so, but because it is cleaner and safer. If you raise the loader arms high enough, they barely move at all when you relieve the pressure and there may be a drop of fluid on occasion. You can park your loader with considerable clearance above the tires. Also, make sure your bucket is leveled to the surface on which you are parking the loader.

As the fittings wear or if you insert or withdraw them a little imperfectly, you can get a nice high pressure spritz. I've seen ball valves stick before and there is a risk, albeit slight, that you could inject yourself with fluid as the warnings state.

A couple more minutes, an extra shut-down/start-up, and I will never have to explain why I wasn't following directions if I damage something or if I am injured. Keep in mind I'm pretty conservative when it comes to safety. When companies try to deny warranty claims, they always look to see if the operator contributed to the problem. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Just my $ 0.03 worth.

Forgot to mention that as you lift your loader arms higher, you will begin to pull on the hydraulic lines. I always park my loader in my shed on a pefectly flat surface, so I leave the tractor brake off so the tractor can roll forward slightly with a little left-hand nudge when the lines shorten. This also means you will need to pull all the way into the frame when you reinstall. The instructions suggest leaving the tractor in neutral with the brake off when reinstalling. The loader simply pulls the tractor into place.

I grew up with farm-sized JD's and we never powered down the engine for hyd connects/disconnects. I have a roll of paper towels in barn, lay one one floor below fittings when I hook up/unhook. Usually get a drip from one or two fittings. I do have the "plug" ready to do when disconnecting and this usually avoids the drip.

Yes probably a bit safer with engine off but been doing it this way for 30 years.
