FEL (front end loader) with general duty bucket + some scrap plywood over bucket, to turn bucket into more of a 55 gallon drum per say, some duct tape, to seal up any cracks between FEL and plywood. one hole for suction end of shop vac, a slot a few inches wide, a couple inches tall. to suck in leafs on one corner of the FEL with plywood?? drive to your hearts content until bucket is full?

*beh*... need to figure something out... not real interested with old manual grass rake. or use of a blower.

belly mower, plus FEL, and some how turning fel bucket into a grass catcher thing? eeerr leaf catcher thing me do?

*shrugs* bored, rainy wet soggy mess outside. and trying to think of a side project...

Anyway, your idea sounds great, just that the power you'd need to run that vacuum could be more than any 12v to 120v converter can put out.

Here's some talk about power requirements. Compare to a 5 hp shop vac. What they call "5 HP" is more like 2hp because they run on a 15A outlet - and all you can get from 15Amps is 2 horsepower, (probably less actually). On a tractor bucket lets say an opening 2 feet wide, x 1.5" for leaves to go thru. A "5hp" shop vac is tapped out with a floor sweeper 1/4" wide slot about 14 inches long = 3.5 square inches of slot. Tractor bucket slot two feet by 1.5" = 36 sq inches, = 10 times as big. So for sucking equivalence to a 2hp shop vac you'd need something like ten shopvac motors, and a converter with 15,000watts capacity to run these shopvac motors.

I like projects.

I really messed up at a auction a few weeks back. The guy had what was called a lawn genie, made by the Mathew company. It was advertised as a snow blower by the auction company. It was actually more like a flail mower/sweeper combination. It was a 3pt hitch with a flail mower, with two rows of knives followed by a row of sweepers ,two rows of knives and a second row of sweepers. A steel roller ran the width of the machine just like a flail mower has. All of your trimmings went into a hopper basket set at the rear. You mowed and dumped when the basket got full. What a great way to clean up your fall leaves. 60 inches wide and everything mulched and picked up. At 250 dollars I was just dumb............

Sorry to agree with you,,,,,,,but. How many other 'things' have to follow you home now to make up for that? Careful beating yourself up, auctions can be dangerous.

I had a riding lawn mower with a bagger. It did a great job of picking up leaves which I then had to dump, dump again, dump again, etc. You get the picture I suspect. Then I got another riding mower with a leaf mulching deck and blades. I have never looked back. It grinds them up where they are, and I am done.
