NH TC40DA 2002
Just got my TC40DA, 2002. A little wear, but sounbd machine, I think. I was playing with it last 2 days scratching some dirt and moving some rocks with the grapple. I'm sure I'll get better with more practice, but it's difficult to fine tune the up/down motion to best position the grapple to grab things like irregular shaped rocks. Speed of up/down would be much better for my needs if it were substantially slower. What's best way to slow down that function??

The slower the engine RPMs, the slower the loader will operate.

Less joystick can help too.

For the grapple circuit you should be able to get, or easilly fashion a flow restrictor as well.

If it is your loader controls that are moving too fast, back off the throttle a little, like JerryG said. If the grapple moves considerably faster than the other hydraulics --- and it might --- put a flow restrictor between the line going to the cylinder and the input side fo the cylinder. It looks like a normal plumbing fitting, but the hole in the middle is greatly reduced.

Put a 0.030" orifice in the grapple line. You only need one in one hose because all fluid goes through each hose; it just changes direction. If you can't find the orifice (I paid $4.00 each for mine), then a more expensive adjustable flow control valve will do the trick, and they can be purchased from surplus center.

The orifice gives me great feathering control on my grapple. I'm sure I could pick up an orange without breaking the skin.

Jinman, is the orifice constrictor the same as a near roll-over?? On a more serious note, should my local hydraulic shop have them??

That would be a "rear orifice" restrictor...:D

Here's a link to an orifice from Parker. You can print it and take it to the hydraulic shop. The one's I bought from my NH dealer had a swivel on one end and fit into the 1/2" NPT fittings. I'd check with the service manager at your NH dealer. They might have them. When I bought mine, the guy at the parts counter told me I was the only person who had ever bought one of those and actually knew what it was for. I have them in all my remote hydraulic circuits.

It took me a second, but I get it. Very good, very good. Jim, your answer is complete, good job. I wish the borrowed TC33 I am using had a loader speed problem on the fast side, but it does not. I am still holding out on the lady selling it. She has tried, but no buyers yet. I will offer $9K if no one takes it. I wish this NH had a no joy, joystick problem, it would be the lesser of two evils. Your no joy problem issue needed repair, mine needs replacing of the whole stinkin loader. I think it is one more reason I will always go manufactuer loader and not 3rd party, well that is if I ever get another tractor.

We all want more speed on our loaders, but most of us want better control of a grapple or TnT movement. I believe flINTLOCK has a third-function/diverter control on his FEL for the grapple. If he puts the orifice into the grapple line, that will allow him full control of the grapple and full speed on the FEL.

Too bad about the TC33's non-OEM FEL. I guess there is a reason an OEM or top-of-the-line 3rd party FEL costs as much as they do. I sure like my 16LA (and my new joystick). I've used it for lots of hard work and never done any damage to it whatsoever. The speed is just perfect for me too. I guess if I had any complaint, it would be that I wish the valves/cylinders would hold their position better and not leak down under load. Mine leaks down very slowly and generally for normal loader tasks is not a problem. That's really my only complaint.

Good luck with the offer on the TC33. It's not the tractor you want, but maybe it will fill a void until you can find the one that fits you a lot better.

I'm OK with the grapple speed with 3rd fxn switch by WR Long on loader stick. I just want to slow the up/down loader movement and dump til I have more experience. I'm not doing any production jobs where increased loader speed would be beneficial.
