For winter chores like sitting on the tractor to plow snow in COLD temperatures, I've always used those booths with the "rubber" bottom, "leather" top and removable felt liners. Not very good for things like hiking but always kept my feet warm otherwise.

The last pair I had wore out and I need to replace them. I see prices out there are all over the place for well under a hundred bucks to well over that price.

Any suggestions as to what I should consider?

Sorel got bought out. Production is overseas now. I sure wouldn't buy them for what they're charging. If you want a pac-boot look at White's in Washington. Not sure, but I think they're US built. I bought some Kamik boots last winter. They're rubber boots, all the way to the top, but with thick felt liners. Made in Canada. Price was about $40, and I'm very happy with them for the price. Only thing is you have to remove the liners every night because there's no other way for the moisture to get out.

Let us know what you decide.

Lacrosse Icemans have a thicker sole than sorel and i am prone to cold feet but with the Icemans you will never have cold feet because they are made for ice fisherman to stand on the ice.

LL Bean sells them with great customer service. Their boots are handmade in the USA! They also sell replacement felt liners.

I buy my winter boot a size large. Loose isn't good for hiking but it's warm for tractoring and fishing. When we carpeted my last house I even saved the underlay scraps. They make great winter insoles under the felt liners. As for the felt liners, I keep a spare set around so that I can swap them out for a drier pair. Even a bit of moisture in a liner can make for cold feet on a long day.

Have you looked at muck boots?

Sorel used to be the best there was. As noted, LL Bean sells the felt liners and I'll bet they sell a great boot. Also as noted, a larger size keeps you warmer. I don't remember the brand name but there used to be Canadian maker of felt boots that was pretty good.

I don't know much abut muck boots but a friend of mine in a cold climate says everyone is wearing them.
