Fence post in 5 easy steps.

Step 1. Dig a nice hole just the perfect size with a post hole auger.

Step 2. Get post hole auger stuck in some buried cedar rails.

Step 3. Get auger out by digging massive hole with backhoe.

step 4. Place post in over sized hole.

Step 5. Back fill hole with FEL.

Done!

I drilled right along side an old 2" pipe oil line, from an abandoned oil well, that runs across the property. My version of a backhoe was an 18" pipe wrench, and a 4' cheater pipe, and lots, and lots of of turning of the auger...

I just got my GCTLB after having a BX1800 for a few years and was not used to having a backhoe at my fingertips. So when I got the auger stuck I started thinking about how much work it was going to be to shovel down around the head so I could detach the bit and try turning it back out when I realized:
"What the heck am I doing? I've got a backhoe!"

3*You could have avoided steps 1-4 by making this step 1.

You could have saved your self all that work if you would have just used the BH in the first place.
Unless you need a lot of holes dug for many post I see no sense in a PHD if you have a BH.

Because a post hold dug with a backhoe needs a bunch of compacting when back filling as opposed to a properly sized hole dug by an auger.... that's why.
