Hired contractor to put up Red Brand 2x4 square deal non-climb horse fence. Everything looked fine until I got close. Instead of securing fencing to wooden posts with fencing staples, he used a one inch long shot (staple used for putting up insulation in houses). There are a multitude of tiny gold staples trying to hold the heavy fencing up. The fence isn't straight, it's waving, the corners aren't wrapped, end posts aren't wrapped and where one roll of fencing ended and another added, instead of weaving and splicing together, it was just overlapped and stapled to death with a bunch of tiny gold staples. It meets the ground, next section 6 inches above ground and there are other problems. I voiced my concerns and he stood by his work, so I asked him not to touch the fence again. He told me what he wanted to be paid and I paid him. Now I am faced with trying to find someone to try and salvage what was done. If the many gold staples are taken out and the fence rehung afraid the multitude of staples in the grass with get in horses hooves. Wondered if fence could be salvaged without removing staples, stretched correctly and reinforced with proper fencing nails. There's a video on line on how to hang this fence from RedBrand. We are really floored by what just happened and would like some advice.

Are the t posts straight? Are the corner posts and line posts secure? If he got that part right, it's pretty easy to fix the fence. I would either pull the gold staples, or just cut them off and leave them there. Maybe mow around the are beforehand and then run over it with a magnet on wheels if you are really worried.

Pictures and more pictures of the mess, document everything and sue for failure to comply with industry standards. Probably too late now but you should not have paid him.

Sueing is probably a "no point" action as he is almost certainly a fly-by-night and recovery impossible.

Feel your pain. I have to so all the fencing here for that very reason. The horse woman is very- very picky. She wants zero dogs or coyotes in the pastures and won't tolerate any sharp things on the posts, fence or ground. I think horses love going to the vet.

That is a real shame. Red Brand is the higher priced fence and I have used that product always because IMHO it makes better fence. Anyway if you are gonna go mess with it and worry about staples, I don't blame you. My suggestion from my experiences.... Weed what the area or mow it close. Rake the grass out and away. Get a good magnet on a stick or wheels and keep with with you as you work. That is the best a guy can do to keep track of his stray metal.

What sort of written agreement do you have in place? Is there a description of fastening? Am guessing since you paid them, it is water under the bridge.
