What can anyone tell me about a Fermec TLK760 TLB - good, bad or ugly? It is vintage '96-97, just before bought out by Terex from what I understand. Clearly it is not mainstream Case/Cat/JD so long term support might be an issue I suppose although there is a Terex dealer not too far away (which is where I believe this unit came from 10 years back.

Obviously the price must be right in order to even consider an older, off brand machine. It is low hours and clean. I've got a tired but not abused 1984 2WD Case 580SE now. Would I be jumping from the frying pan to the fire?

Thanks, Ed

I wouldnt' be afraid of a Fermec. They've got a perkins engine, Rexroth pumps, and generic differentials. ( I dunno who makes the diffs... ZF?)
Their resale is kinda pitiful but I don't usually buy machines to sell.

Parts shouldn't be too big an issue... Just my thoughts...

GREAT MACHINE!!
I tried one for a week when we went to bid to buy a hoe for the local highway dep't. By design, the mechanic comes first. Almost everything is easy access to fix or repair.. Has nice cab, flat glass instead of curved like that found on Deere's. Flat glass is a lot easier and definately a lot cheaper to fix if broken. Good ergonomics for the operator. Perkins engine is fuel efficient and has enough power to accomplish the mission. THey have skid plates underneath, end to end. Fermec lost to our town because the local Deere dealer pulled a fast one. They bid low, delivered the machine, and had wrong tires and several other small options that conveniently was charged back. I hate those tactics and still do. If it wasn't for Deere dealer and tactics, we would have had the Fermec.. I would buy and operate a Fermec any day of the week,... Unfortunately, they are not well known and have low price.,. They are a great machine all the way around. IF I had to buy new,, I would get one without question.

Thanks for the feedback thus far - much appreciated. I'm aware that the resale is very poor. What little info there is available through ebay, machinerytrader, etc. these seem very hard to move. As long as the price is right to me (resale isn't really a concern) I can benefit from this.

Larry - the one you used for a week - was that of the same vintage, late'90s?

Thanks again, Ed
