I tried posting this to the Agri Supply web site in the form of a product review but after four months is hasnt shown up - I guess because I provided some negative details. I noticed that their products have all very positive reviews... I’m going to post this info here because there are a couple things you should know before you decide if this pump is right for you. Overall its a great pump for my irrigation needs. It has a built-in pressure regulator and I do recommend it if your needs and resources are similar to mine. I use it to drive four Meridian Harris Farms T Post Sprinkler heads. It has volume and pressure to spare.

There were two issues with the pump I received:

1. After abt five minutes of operation I shut down to inspect everything (always watch a new attachment) and found one of the bolts had backed out and was laying on the ground under the pump. I found that none of the bolts had loctite or lock washers so you will need to be alert for this problem. I fixed it before I continued.

2. Contrary to the published spec. It would not self-prime from a well with the water only 18 below the pump. It would not even pump with a foot valve and the suction line primed. I wanted this thing to work so I plumbed up two 275 gal IBC tanks to create a 550 gal above ground tank system and solved the problem.

I was disappointed but the ground was very dry and I had a nice whitewater river just behind the house. I use a cheap little Harbor Freight pump setting down by the river to fill the tanks. Now I can run the tractor (Deutz-Allis 5215) at 1500 rpm and really move some water with the Ferroni pump. Ill attempt to create a video of the pump in action.

I have the same pump that I use with a 300 gallon tank to water spruce trees that I have transplanted. I pump from my water hydrant to the tank so I have not experienced the problem with self priming. But overall I am quite satisfied with the pump. I performs much better than the roller pump I had been using previously.

I want to build a fire fighting rig for burning my CRP fields using the Ferroni MLI-25 pump or either Hypro 6500 or 7560 and feeding from an IBC tank on my 3 point.

Question about the Ferroni - is the built-in valve actually function like a pressure relief valve ?

IOW, if you shut the valve all the way off does it stop output flow and allows the pump to still run under PTO power indefinitely and not dead-head ?

I'm feeling like I need to have a releif valve in the output circuit in case I "forget" to stop the PTO to shut off the spray.

Secondly, do you feel the pump would self-prime from a lake to fill the IBC tank if I were parked close?

Sorry to bring up an old thread, if that's a nono here.

thanks

I guess I should have asked:

If the Ferroni pump valve is turned all the way open for maximum flow, and you stop the output flow at the hose nozzle but leave the PTO running, will the pump deadhead/burn up, or will the valve allow the pump to keep running safely ?

The valve is a pressure relief valve so I can see no reason you shouldn稚 be able to use it the way you describe but I haven稚 tried it that way. I知 still very pleased with the pump for my purposes. It will self prime if the pump is not too high above the water level but as I said initially, it won稚 self prime with a 20 ft difference. 5-10 ft shouldn稚 be a problem.
