Fertilizer Spreader PTO Shaft - 1 3/16 to 540

Looking for a PTO shaft that is 1 3/16 round smooth to 540 6 spline (I think).

Yes I'm sure about 1 3/16. I say that because I can only find 1 3/8.

Agrisupply carries this one (Fertilizer Spreader PTO Shaft - Series 1 | Grizzly) which seems to be the right size (about 27" out to 37" extended) but it is 1 3/8. There seem to be lots of other similar ones out there.

I don't mind changing a yoke, but it seems to be difficult to figure out the cross size and type of this stuff to order the right thing.

Shaft on spreader is 1 3/16, smooth, and is drilled for a shear bolt. I don't mind doing some drilling to get things to work (lots of the yokes I've seen have keyways).

Local TSC is no help, neither is local JD dealer.

Buy the 1 3/8",,,, and get a bushing to bush it to 1 3/16".
That should be a common bushing,, if not have it made.

The shear bolt will hold it together. There is little torque,, and the speed is low.

Thought about the bushing, was concerned it would want to break the shear bolt.

Also concerned the bushings would be difficult to fit with out final machining. I have and H press and Oxy torch, but no lathe or mill. I guess if it is tight, it won't break the shear bolt :0

Found these in bronze which would be easier to work (and booger) than steel...

This is a VERY slow joint. There is VERY little torque.

I would find a piece of steel water pipe that is close,, and make a steel bushing.
The joint is the complete opposite of a high speed bearing.

Heck, it might run perfect with NO bushing. I have seen some sloppy spreaders.

I actually considered JB weld - the putty stuff - We don't need no stinking shear bolt!

Look for a shaft with a 30 MM round bore yoke. Same as 1-3/16"

Google is your friend. Search 30 MM implement yoke. Lots of hits. Know your shaft series and type.

Since the two parts will move at the same direction and speed (unless you shear a bolt, and I've never even seen a shear bolt on a spreader) you really only need something to take up the space, not something to take a lot of abuse.

I've seen people use rope instead of a PTO shaft... you are only tapping under 1hp to spin the thing, so it holds up well enough.

I'm sure a bushing would be fine & not kill a sheer pin even if it was undersize & loose. Just due to the lack of stress the spinner could put on it.

I think this is a job for DUCT TAPE. If you are serious about a shaft that is the right size, TSC sold a 3 pt hitch cement mixer that was pto drive and the shaft on it was splined to 30mm smooth with cross bolt. Nortrac , Bison, and others sell the same mixer. How do I know, I have one laying here from the mixer which I converted to hydraulic drive. Length is about 27" to about 35" usable, end to end. After doing a little more homework, I found that AGRI SUPPLY sells that mixer and a replacement pto shaft part # 59328. Check it out and the price is cheaper that I would have sold mine for.
