We've had a hellacious winter here this year....not an enormous amount of snow but an incredible amount of sleet and ice. After taking a header last weekend on our new "skating rink" which had previouisly been known as our driveway, I have decided I need a different attachment to deal with this stuff. Wondering if anyone here has the spreader and what they think of it. I would be using a cinder mix which has a lot of fines mixed in with 1/4 - 3/8" solids. Do you think the speader can handle this? And how much material can the hopper hold?

Thanks
Jack

It seems like the manure spreader is going to be more used to dealing with thicker substance.

I would think a seed spreader would be a better solution... Use salt or sand in it...

I don't have the PT spreader, but a word of caution on mixed grit. The more uniform your material, the easier it is to have it settle without bridging in the tank, the easier it is to convey it to and through the feeder gate, and to spread it.

While you can spread a mixture of fines through 1/4", it will be harder to do than 1/8" calcium chloride balls. You might want to think about a shaft rising through the hopper to keep bridges from forming.

All the best,

Peter

Yeah that's why I'm curious of how well this attachment works. I don't want to use salt or calcium because of the animals and cost...the drive is over 1/4 mile long and heavily wooded so not a lot of sun hits it. Once it ices up it stays that way for a while.

I am worried about the fines clogging the works up. Is it just a hopper with a rotating disk on the bottom or does it have some kind of mixing shaft in it? If anyone is planning a trip to Tazwell I'd love to see some pic's of it and get some opinions on how it works.

We got whacked again yesterday so everything is frozen and iced up again.

Thanks
Jack
