Canopy Fiberglass canopy

Have any of you fellas out there bought a fiberglass canopy that bolts on to the ROPS of a JD 790? If you have, where did you purchase it and approximately how much did it cost. I see back a while ago, one or two of you might have gotten taken by "Bernie". /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif I sure don't want that to happen. Thanks,

I bought a very nice canopy at Firebird Fiberglass (firebirdfiberglass.com). They are legitimate. I picked mine up at the factory in Phoenix, AZ. They sell to JD dealers and not really to individuals, but they sold a "blem" direct to me (just minor paint flaws) for $280. They might ship you a blem, I don't know. If you are interested, the product is called a bucktop canopy. Very well made and a nice assessory. Gemplers has a plastic tractor canopy for direct shipment in their catalog (white only).

I bought a croctop for my JD Gator from this company, and it is very well built. Their # is 1-800-726-8667 They indicate on their web site they have other colors than just green.

Why do you want fiberglass, Dave? My insulated steel canopy cost $295 which was $100 less than the dealer wanted for the genuine Kubota plastic or fiberglass canopy, and I would have already broken a plastic one (just bent the edges of the steel a bit/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif).

This will be a two part response.

1. I wanted fiberglass thinking that it would be lighter than steel. Reason for this is the 790 has a High Center Of gravity with a narrow wheel base and I did not want to make the tractor any more top heavy than it is now.

2. Question for you "Bird" & "Hillbilly". What are the physical deminsions of your canopies and what does your canopies weigh? What about warranties? Ease of installation and last but not least, how much vibration noise do you get off of your canopies>

Dave, for question #2, my canopy is 58" front to rear and 48" side to side. Weight and ease of installation? Don't know the weight but saw a relatively small mechanic at the dealership pick one up, set it on a new L series Kubota and hold it with one hand while he put the bolts through the brackets. He did get a second person to hold it straight while he tightened the bolts. Vibration noise? None! Warranty? Never even thought about it; have no idea. I have the steel painted to match the tractor and after nearly 2.5 years, they still match./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif You can also get unpainted diamond plate aluminum for the same price. And it came with a real nice black molding around the edge, but after I scraped it loose on trees about 3 times, I just removed all of it./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif It definitely takes a good hit to bend the edge and it's tough to straighten when you do, but the frame and brackets have never moved.
