Looking for first hand info on Field Pro by East Wind 254.I have read a few posts re East Wind=Field Pro, that they are more stout than Jinmas and use heavier clutch. Are these same caliber as the other Chinese tractors? If I remember right, they are a semi privately owned facory and not state owned and produce somewhat better qualaty tractors. True or false? Importers/service providers, please provide info re the above

Dong Feng makes East Wind... From my sources Dong Feng is also state owned. Good tractors but I'm told not so good factory support. On a 254 any Chinese manufacture will have same construction. Kama uses 354 chassis for 254. Wholesale price between Kama 254 and 354 ... $200.00

The answer to the question magyarbacsi is asking, in my opinion, is True. We have found the qulity of DF tractors to be a bit higher than Jinma and even our own KAMA brand.

Flyhi,

Dong Feng Agricultural Machinery Company (DFAM) went private in 2003. the factory that made our KAMA tractors became a stock company last year, prior to that they were a state owned factory. The actual brand name used by that company is TaiShan. Kama Tractors (tm) is our (Artrac co LLC) trademarked name. At one time, the Shandong factory was part of a Chinese conglomerate that used the brand name KAMA. but I am getting way off the subject here.

Our experince, after several container loads of tractors is that the factory support from DFAM is very good. In my opinion, a private company has more motivation to build for the future. Most state owned factories seem interested in todays business only, not looking forward.

Im betting your source is a chinese exporter/broker. DFAM does not sell much through brokers so brokers may not get the "factory $upport" from them that they can from Jinma who sells to many brokers and importers everywhere so many are much more likely to "push" that product line. There is no doubt that Jinma is the most popular Chinese tractor sold in the USA at present.

We are introducing our new line, AGTRAC Tractors(tm) which are made for us by DFAM, including a model with fully synchonized, shuttle shift transmission.

Feild Pro is a brand name from a west coast importer, I don't think they have anything to do with eastwind in vestal NY (which according to some customers I have talked to, may not still be in operation), or east wind in Austrailia, both use DFAM tractors. The Chinese words Dong Feng translates in eglish as East Wind.

I thought you were going with Kama's(TaiShan) new line.

I'll take this opportunity to explain where we are going for those that might be interested, for the rest, it will be a bunch of boring dribble I'm sure.

ARTRAC has imported KAMA branded tractors since 2003. I chose KAMA at that time because of the heavier chassis and the shuttle shift transmissions and felt it was more for the money when compared to JInma. While that tractor had a good basic design, a very strong chassis, the factory was going through some major reorganization as it converted from state to stock ownership. Qualiy control suffered during this time and we didn't order any tractors in 2006. In December 2006, I visited China and toured DFAM, Shandong Tractor Works, Foton and Changfa along with some smaller attachment factories. I have a background in machine tools, so I was able to evaluate these companies by their manufacturing capability, not just their buildings and finished product. DFAM had the best equipped machine shop that I toured. I did not visit Jinma this trip, but would if the opportunity presented itself. I believe the ability to machine quality parts, in house (especially in China), is critical to maintain a desirable quality standard. So I made the hard decision to switch factories.

Realizing that to properly support a brand of tractor with parts and labor warranty, co op advertising, product liability insurance, marketing, etc, would take more resources than ARTRAC alone could invest, I took on partners and formed AGTRAC International LLC as a new company to distriubte DFAM tractors in the USA.

Having a 4 year relationship with some good people at the Shandong tractor factory, ARTRAC, independent of AgTrac International, continues to import parts and we have even brought in a few TS354X tractors. We have not closed the door to doing further business with Shandong Tractor Works. My main interest is to continue to supply parts for the hundreds of TS and KM tractors that are in the USA, many that were imported through our company and many that were imported by others going back into the early 90s.

We breifly offered a crate program for the KAMA Tractor brand. We saw limited interest and frankly could not economically offer the level of support that we are accustomed to providing our customers witht the lower margins so we have suspended that program.

I did post a couple picture of the New TS454/554 prototypes from Shandong Tractor on the chinese tractor owners club page. I was intersted in getting some feedback. Currently we are not importing tractors above 40HP from any company. Neither DFAM or TaiSHan have a suitable unit for the US market at this time but both are working on it. We have tabled the decision until we see how the Chinese engine factories contend with tier 3 EPA which becomes effective Jan 1, Tier 3 will affect 50HP and up tractors. and we may see an interuptions of Chinese tractors above 50HP once again as happened when the TPEM program ended in 2005.

TaiSHan is still state owned with a small portion privately owned. None of it is public stock. Kama laid off and retired 2000 of it's 3500 workers last year and still holds debt to the 1000 retired workers. How many Kamas have you bought in the last year? . . .
