filter pricing

i grabbed stuff to do the oil & fuel filter change in my 6.0 gas & 6.6 diesel today. i hit walmart for the oil - $93 for 10 quarts rotella t6 & 6 quarts mobil1 - since they are generally the cheapest, barring sale prices at other places. since it is nearly just across the road from walmart, i grabbed ac oil filters at advance auto - $16 for both, and i was planning on picking up the standard store brand fuel filter for the diesel until they quoted me $55 - i decided check around.

i know they've gone up over the last few years. i had usually picked them up at the carquest close to home - $43 for the one last year. last year i also got a price from napa around $65. since i was goign right by the gm dealer, i decided to finally check the price of an ac fuel filter and it was $42. it turns out that every aftermarket parts chain i've seen sells their fuel filters for more than the original brand one from the dealer.

i've seen much higher prices in aftermarket parts over the last few years and i guess it's hit the point where some things are cheaper from the manufacturer rather than an aftermarket source. has anyone else compared with other brands? i wonder if the same holds true for ford & dodge filters (or other parts too)? last winter i bought a real fisher branded replacement plow solenoid from a selling dealer for less than a generic aftermarket one too.

For my particular applications, they have beaten NAPA prices by about 30-35%, sometimes more.

I know they saved me around $45.00, including shipping, when I changed all filters on my Case hoe, and that was with an extra oil filter, and air filter. So it was well worth the shipping cost.

I buy all my filters in bulk, 25 to 100 at a time so I get very good pricing. Most under $2 each including the Dmax oil filters.

Both. I ordered online some times though Ebay. I bought just over a 100 filters locally at a distributor 12 miles from me. The average price was about $1.50 each for oil and $4.00 for air.

The filters are all Fram, Quaker State, STP, Pennzoil, Wix, ect. Never sure what brand you are going to get due to what is in stock.

I am buying for a F-150, Dmax, Lincoln Aviator, Ford F-700 Dump Truck, GMC C60 Dump Truck, Ford Tractor, Case Dozer, Case BH, a couple of ZTR's, My Titan, Boats, F-350 PowerStroke, Saturn, BMW, Lawn Mower, Kohler Generator, Jinma Tractor, Ford Tractor, and a few other odds and ends. I do about 75 to 100 oil changes a year.

Our store is a Baldwin distributor . 6.6 fuel filter # BF 7827 . Check with your local distributor , price should be better than what you have found with the other brands .

thanks to all for the links to places to buy them cheaper online, but it wasn't really intended that way. i was looking at it more from the point of: what's the point of aftermarket part retailers if they are more expensive than the oem part dealers? some will say the aftermarket part may be better quality, but for all of my life so far, the reason 99% of the people bought aftermarket was to save money.

I once tried this with locals but they are too high. I buy online. Too bad for them. Aftermarket are better them OEM most times that I have seen.
